One is that he ambushed a Luna Wolves ship and when the main fleet including Horus came along he out manoeuvred them and was able to board the ship killing Horus's Bodyguard until he was face to face with Horus.

 

The second was that he was on a desolate world where the former occupants had all gone and it was a ruin, when Half Human / Xenos renegades turned up and he killed them all taking their weapons and ship.

 

The third is he landed on a tech-oligarchy world but before the first year was out the slaught arrived to feed, they took him alive and tortured him and twisted his mind, he was eventually saved by the Emperor.

 

The fourth was that he had been left behind during the scattering of the Primarchs and was badly wounded but nursed back to health by the Emperor and he became the Emperor's secret hand.

 

All these stories end with "These accounts are a lie".

I suspect the Alpha Legion did not give over all the technology to Horus in Deliverance Lost to make sure that if Horus won he would be too weak to capitalise and then Chaos would burn itself out, either that or with the corruption caused to the geneseed thingummy causing mutation in the Raven Guard it would debase and cripple all Horus' new recruits.

Furthermeore upon Horus' death, his corpse was stolen and an attempt to make a cone of Horus was made. It doesnt state whether this was successful or not, only that Abaddon destroyed the clone.

If Horus was seen to rise from the dead, Chaos could have come back, defeated the Emperor, but also been too strong and would not have burnt itself out but been resurgent

 

Space Wolves may have been infiltrated, or certainly an attempt made. Kasper Hawser was a spy, but we do not know who for... Was it the 15th Legion as suspected, or were they wrongly accused and set up for a fall. Was it Erebus using him as a warp conduit to see what the Wolves were up to, or was it an attempt by the Alpha Legion

Been a while since I read it, but doesn't PB make it pretty clear it was Daemons/Chaos/Tzeentch that Hawser was 'spying' for.

 

Plus, haven't the Wolves been the only Legion shown to immediately detect attempted AL infiltration (because they smell wrong)?

 

That said, I don't really like how the Heresy series has handled the AL. FW have done better, but BL's job has been pretty poor imo.

Actually, Fabius Bile stole the Body of Horus from the SoH and did, in fact, successfully clone him. At this point, however, Abaddon arrived and killed the clone, destroyed the original body and took the Talon Of Horus as his own.

 

 

Also, the Big E obliterated Horus' soul. It literally no longer exists in the warp or otherwise. Its gone. As if he never existed.

I definitely believe, like you, his soul was annihilated by the Emperor.  So I think while the clone of Horus was successful in Talon of Horus it wasn't "The Real" Horus if you know what I mean.
