Alpha Legion Detachments

if you play Battles in the AoD, you only have one main detachment and one allied detachment, aswell as one LoW and one fortification for non-apocalypse-games :/

Edit: I'm not sure if you can take AL as AL allied detachment, but if you do it, than you should be able to choose different special rules

LACAL; Page 9, Using Force Organisation Charts

"However note that the Force Organization charts presented here take precedence over that listed in the rulebook, and, unlike the standard chart and battle missions found in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, you may not take an addiitional primary detachment in games over 2,000 points unless specified by the particular mission"

So not only is a book written for 7th edition using 6th edition rules, the best bits of 6th were excluded regardless. I need to finish writing up the 7th edition rules fix and email it off to FW ASAP.

tbh, that's fine and balanced as long as you want to play 2500-4000 point games (and not want to use more than one legion + support) .... all above can be played with apocalypse rules (so you don't need to have any detachments at all)

GW and FW couldn't balance two equal weights on a scale.

It's not balanced, and lists become boring copy paste fests as people attempt to squeeze the best units into their lists where the minor bonuses and maluses barely make a difference to how the different units themselves operate.

Emperor's Children.

Imperial Fists/Iron Hands.

Sure, on a Tournament level Competitiveness Legions like the SoH, EC and WE will probably never see the light of day when compared to the IF, IH and AL but, since thats not what we're all about down here - even though we still want lists that are strong, efficient and effective - lists can be made to work even with "sub-par" legions; it'll just take more involvement on your part to make it work.

I, on the one hand, lucked out extremely well by having my 40k Chapter and consequently my 30k Legion be the Imperial Fists and having solid rules and probably the best non-primarch character(s). So I can't really complain.

On the other hand, you've got the EC Tactica thread which is constantly trying to figure out ways to make their legion work and, from what I've seen, are quite successful.

I also try to suggest "outside of the box" units in most list threads because I want to avoid the Copypasta that happens in a system like this which is basically "Everyone has the same core with varying peripherals depending on legion". The system was probably designed that way either way since they wanted to  get the "legion" feel down; Large squads and very specialized units over the Jack-of-all-trades that 40k marines are.

Hopefully, Book 5 comes along with an FAQ or updates to things like RoW and Currently Sub-Par units to even things out.
