Grotsmasha
My guess would be a red washed a lot of times, or a brown shaded, a lot of times. Teetengee
My guess is black, painted red, highlighted brighter red and then washed many times, perhaps with a 1:2? mix of crimson and whatever the black wash is called these days. Ovidius Incertus
Were I doing it, I'd prime black and base with either Vallejo Mahogany or Hull Red. Depending on how many highlights, start with Rhinox Hide or equivalent, then Doombull Brown, then edge with Bestial Brown (or whatever equivalent), though it looks like they've maybe used something in the Ushabti Bone region for edging. Maybe tie it all together with a wash of crimson or a glaze of Bloodletter, depending on how dark you want it? Kaedes Nex
I don't know if this is actually how they do it or not, but GW's official painting guide for that style of dark red similar to the Flesh Tearers painting guide is to use a dark red then wash it black and highlight the edges. Bryan Blaire
Actually have an old WD where they described the painting for that model: 1) Base coat w/3:1 Chaos Black:Scab Red 2) Layer 1:1 Chaos Black:Scab Red 3) Heavy edge highlight 1:1 Scab Red:Blood Red 4) Blend edge highlight up to Blood Red 5) Continue blending edge highlight up to Blazing Orange 6) Use 1:1 Blazing Orange:Bleached Bone as next highlight 7) Add fine line of pure Bleached Bone as the final highlight As an added bonus, how the magma effect was done: 1) Paint magma effect with Scab Red 2) Glaze w/1:3 Scab Red:Chaos Black 3) Trace design 1:1 Scab Red:Blazing Orange 4) Trace design with Blazing Orange 5) Trace design w/1:1 Blazing Orange:Bleached Bone 6) Apply Bleached Bone where lines intersect Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302824-dark-burgundy-maroony-reddy/#findComment-3937314 Share on other sites
