Captain Coolpants
I always do an even split, I think it's foolish to put more special weapons in one than the other, because it'll get focused on more. Quixus
Apart from having 5 models in each combat squad you are free to distribute them as you see fit. You may have use for one combat squad with all the good stuff and one without. jeffersonian000
I tend to run full squads in my lists so I can combat squad as needed if MSU might be to better match up. As such, my full squads of 10 are actually 2 mirrored 5-mans, to make it easy on me and my opponent for distinguishing which unit is which. So functionally, all I take are 5-man's, bought in 10-man blocks. This nets me 1 Psycannon per 5, 2 Hammers per 5, and 3 Falchions per 5, maybe a Melta Bomb on the Justicar. I've pretty much stopped using Halberds and Swords (until next edition makes them better; always magnetize!). Brom MKIV
My go to is usually double psycans in one unit (1 w ndh) joined by ICs with the justicar. The other unit is almost always 5 falchions. If course this can vary depending how I've designed my list. Reason is I don't like sergs in units without ICs attached. On the other squad I don't like wasting anti infantry fire when I'm shooting armour so I combine psycans. I do also enjoy attaching tda inquisitors with psycan/ndh. It's hard to beat their value and 3 wounds brings quite a bit of durability to the unit. tomsev
OK, thanks for the answers guys, another question how many hammers, sword/ halbeard/ falchions per squad? Keep em cheap or get them gear? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302825-combat-squadding-termies/#findComment-3937153 Share on other sites
Grand Master Caloth
On my palidans, I put the four psycannons with apothecary in one, three hammers, two halberds, and the other 5, same melee breakdown with storm bolters, in the other. Libby generally rides with the cannons and GM takes the other 5 to kill things Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302825-combat-squadding-termies/#findComment-3937336 Share on other sites
Captain Coolpants
For me, I always try to have 1 hammer per 5, they used to all have hammers other than the justicar, who had a +2 Initiative helberd last edition (because they were free) And always 1 psycannon per 5 as they're the only effective psycannon caddies other than dreadknights. And always 2 psycannons per 5 on paladins. Then the other upgrades depend entirely on who you're going up against. Mushkilla
I run 10 man squads with, 1 hammer, 2 psycannons (everyone else with swords). I always give my librarians hammers, so I don't feel the need to take 2 hammers per 10 man squad. When I combat squad I normally run one squad with the two psycannons and the other squad with the hammer, justicar and accompanied by a librarian. This way my shooting is more efficient and I only waste 6 storm bolter shots when shooting tanks, rather than 16-18. It also means that I can prescience two psycannons with one casting of divination. It also means both squads need to take three casualties before special weapons/characters start getting removed (hammers/justicar/psycannons).
