Imperial Fists Colour Scheme?

Hello there!

I'm looking at starting up some Imperial Fists, again. I've tried previously a couple of times but got frustrated with them. However, I am finally biting the bullet and am going to purchase myself an airbrush to get these suckers down to a tee.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good scheme that they have had success with?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm getting a bit bored of muted/dark Legions now and want to branch out.

I haven't painted a whole model this way, but I've been experimenting with inks over metallic coats for various Legions recently, and I think it's a method that would work nicely for the Fists, especially if you want them nice and vibrant. Basically, you paint everything leadbelcher, wash with badab black and then highlight with leadbelcher and mithril silver, before slapping a coat of ink on. Here's a Salamander I painted this way; the only difference would be that you'd use a yellow ink rather than a green one. Here's a picture of the test shoulderpad I did; I think it looks quite distinctive and is clearly yellow as opposed to gold, the normal issue when you try to do metallic fists.

Thinking of doing something like this for my Fists. Great way of doing a different yellow.

I don't do Fists but I have started airbrushing yellow recently myself. I found the best is:

-Vallejo Model Air Ochre (base)

-Vallejo Model Air Gold Yellow (highlight)

-Vallejo Model Air Yellow (extreme highlight)

I also use a grey surface primer from Vallejo.

Sounds like a lot but its actually easy-peesy. I darken them up a little by using Vallejo Model Color Chocolate Brown after the primer but you may want a brighter yellow.

I'd go up from Averland Sunset to get a dark yellow over the black. Then work up to Yriel. If its still too dark at that stage, go over it with Flash Gitz, highlight with white then Glaze the whole thing with Lamenters Yellow.

Its going to be thick so be careful about the number of coats you apply but that should get you a decently bright yellow.

Edit:

This, I did with Black primer then Averland -> Yriel -> Flash Gitz with Sepia for the detail.s

These I did White Primer and 2-3 coats of Lamenters yellow

This I primed white, Drybrushed everything in Golden Gryphon and Glazed with 2 coats of Lamenters.

That's exactly what I did grandmaster. Here are the two best that I can recommend. I took the metallic one and modified it to my liking, and to suit an airbrush.

Excellent, I definitely recommend an airbrush for colors like white and yellow which need that consistent application.

As far as my exact scheme, let me get back to you. I'm away from home here for a few more days. I plan on posting it in my HH thread, which is currently filled with Zone Mortalis stuff.
