Birth of the Thunderchild

Growing up my father had the album Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and I'm sure many of you my age probably remember it. Richard Burton was the narrator with music by Justin Hayward.

One of the songs was called Thunderchild, a British Dreadnaught. I've always had an affinity for the name and have used it quite often. Most recently my Akira Class Heavy Cruiser Thunderchild in Star Fleet Battles.

So of course I had to name my first Super Heavy; Thunderchild.

I will admit that I'm cheating a little. I'm having a buddy of mine put it together for me. He's a very talented painter and has an airbrush:

He's done some awesome work with the Greenskin and the Archenemy so let's see what he can do with the Immortal Emperor's steel fist.

Very cool! How much work is your mate doing on it? Will it be magnetised at all?

He's building her from the ground up and yes she will be magnetized. I've been really conflicted about having him do the work though as if I'm doing something bad but there's a reason that you have professionals do their job.

Damn, my Baneblade arrived today, and I was planning on consecrating it as the blessed Thunderchild. (Mainly because it will likely only kill a couple of things then die instantly to heat rays.)

Curse you for beating me to it!

I don't know if I should be flattered or scared that we share the same brainwave. My first game fielding a mock Baneblade ended like that. Going against damned bugs. First round of shooting and he cover saved all the ordinance from my Baneblade but he tunnel visioned on her and the rest of my armor tore him up. 2000 point game and I only lost 1 Baneblade, 1 Wyvren, 1 Vendetta and a single squishie.

You can both have the same name, they can compete for the most battle honours ;)

There's nothing wrong with having someone else build a model, especially if they're magnetising it all for you. After all, 2nd hand models are mostly built by others and I'll shoot anyone who says that rescuing a model and giving it a loving home isn't the Emperor's work!
