Master of Mankind...on the horizon?

When he meets the Emperor after coming back to Terra in the much maligned Deliverance Lost. edit: Actually I can't seem to find the quote I am thinking of. Ill do a search-a-roo.

The Emperor said in the Outcast dead that he couldn't be both Omnipotent and Omniscient at the same time. It is my personal theory, but I believed the Emperor had foreseen the Heresy in some shape or form. He was working against time. That is why he wanted to test the loyalty of Horus with the super Ork episode. With his seemingly proven he was assured that the Heresy we know wouldn't come to pass. He wanted the rebellion of the marines as a justification to remove them like the Thunder Warriors. Or he did know it would come pass and it was "just as planned" but he didn't plan on sorta loving Horus?

Here is where I am of two minds. One: The Emperor is playing a very long game. He has been alive for like 30k years so either he is just a super-powerful Tyrant of Terra (cool title) and was unsuccessful for a very long time in his goal of world domination or he was waiting and planning this moment and the moments after for a long, long time. Im leaning to the later based on the whole Dragon of Mars plot line. But I wouldn't be surprised if the former is true. They might not be mutually exclusive because of the Molech plot line.

Well the existing lore states that he alone knew the path that Humanity must take to survive so I'm not sure he was a tyrant as such. Just someone with more information than everyone else which probably made him look that way.

There is the possibility that this book may change that but who can say. I'm hoping for more information about The Emperor and his Grand Plans even if that doesn't include point of view scenes.

Getting a bit off-topic here, but I have always had the opinion that the heresy was designed to happen. The Emp knew that Chaos would rise against him and orchestrated "the best possible future" where he would be worshiped as a God, with each martyred/sacrificed soul feeding his power/presence in the warp. When grown powerful enough, he would just reincarnate (like Vulkan - remember that the primarchs gained their abilities as aspects of the Emperor) and destroy the chaos gods.

Only complication with my theory is the webway project. Maybe he planned to finish it before Horus reached Terra. It would seem that Magnus destroying the wards of the webway was an unseen variable.

Him sending Russ to arrest Magnus becomes sketchy once you remove the factor of him not believing his son's message. Same for the Wolves and other Legions not being readied, even without their knowledge, to combat Horus

Well, there is a couple of things:

1- managing Russ. (I can strongly suspect Russ of falling into Horus' territory of resenting the Emperor for abandoning the Crusade, so having Russian hankering for audience with the Emperor could itself interrupt the whole project. Sending Russ off on a "special priject" might be a two birds/one stone situation.)

2- Magnus could genuinely be put to good use if brought back to Terra, Russ is probably the most capable of doing that 'with no faffing about'.

Sketchy, sure, but it's one of the less questionable things done.

(Bringing the Thousand Sons to Terra along with Dorn and the Fists is a plausible alternative, but also has its risks. Just sending them away might be the least risky of a lot of risky possibilities...)

I hate the whole, ‘the Emperor planned the Heresy theory ’. It's hardly tragic if that’s what he wanted to happen…

Just makes him a total arsehole as well and the setting has enough of them already.

Really looking forward to this novel, ADB, I’m sure you have nailed it.

Or he just chose to ignore the message, which to me seems like the case. Everything was playing according to his master plan after all, so why react to something you already knew?

Clearly, the Emperor never saw the Heresy come. Just like he never saw the Primarchs being spirited away from his super secret lab.

"The Emperor's most long-sighted plan to counter the insiduous influences of the Chaos Powers was the creation of the Primarchs: genetically engeneered super-humans with god-like powers. The Emperor's intention was to create a whole race of super-humans from the genetic blueprint of the Primarchs. By making them loyal and strong he hoped that they would prove immune to the malign psychic influences of Chaos."

"Unfortunately, things did not go quite according to the plan. Despite the Emperor's best attempts to shield the project from the penetrating eyes of the Chaos Powers they still managed to learn of it. The Primarchs were still in their foetal stage, growing in special amniotic tanks, when the Chaos Powers combined their energies to spirit them away in an unexpectedly bold move."

Magnus was supposed to take emps place in the Golden throne right?

That's what the daemon tells Magnus, which is oddly believable since they never seem to actually lie in the series.  They omit a lot of important details, but everything they do say is technically true.

That cover looks very nice! Making the master of mankind seem awesome.

Wasn't there some old lore when Emps said that his injuries weren't as severe as he was expecting?

That to me says he planned to survive and get back on with things.
