Hello all,

I just put together a draft of a narrative battle report for a campaign that is going on in my local store. We were supposed to be playing planet strike but my opponent did have the rules yet. Each army has to win one planet strike mission to progress, and in this case I was playing the role of the defender.

Tervigon

2 Carnifex

10 genestealers with lord

10 genestealers

Mowloc

My list had

Bjorn

Murderfang

GH pod with flamer.

2x Bclaws in RBs

vindi

I seized the initiative with Bjorn for the first time as well, which I tried to incorporate into the story. Thanks for reading!

The winds of Pavaali had swept the snow and ice in cascading waves over the hulking chassis of the Vlka Fenryka’s oldest warrior. Bjorn the Fell Handed had been frozen for millennia before this, but this was different than his usual slumber. A small contingent of space wolves had landed on the dark side of the planet hours before and began preparing a landing site. Their goal was to secure an LZ for two high value packages. The Great Wolf wanted to hide the arrival of two vital assets, The Ancient, and the Feral One.

Grey Hunter Oleg Redclaw had been given strict instructions to keep the Wolves presence subdued. The Iron Priest had gone over every detail with him, twice. Oleg was no longer questioning why his seasoned squad had been attached to a delivery mission and had taken first watch himself, as he awaited further instructions. It was then when his senses snapped him back to reality; there was something in the air.

The only sound Redclaw made as he ran was the faint whine of the generator that powered his armoured carapace. Like an animal a tenth of his size, Oleg charged down the mountainside toward the main site and back to his battle brothers. Although he had never seen them before, Redclaw was trained to recognize the Tyranid threat. He recognized the Tervigon immediately as the one that spawns, but that was not the scent that had stung his nostrils, there was something else waiting.

With only a few words Bjorn the Fell Handed explained his plan. The valley was guiding the Tyranid scout group right onto the Wolves position and contact was inevitable. The wolves were instructed to move the transports and armour over a small ridge, and leave only one pod in the centre of the opening to the great valley. Redclaw and his pack were to take up positions under deep snow to hide their heat signatures.

The Tyranids swept the position faster than expected but the Wolves were ready. With a bellowing howl, Lone Wolf Tyr’s charge initiated the engagement. The razorbacks and vindicator responded quickly, shooting into the nearest horde. Redclaw’s hunters reveal themselves and let loose their flames into the sprawling mass of teeth and talons just as the Spawn Mother unleashed her guants, attempting to overwhelm the line. The reaction of the horde was brutal and swift and a lord emerged from the brood. Two massive beasts came charging over the hill and smashed the pod into wreckage. The claws of the Genestealers rending and shredding the power armour of the Hunters. Redclaw knew he had made his last mistake; he had underestimated his foe, but would never back down.

Bjorn unleashed a shot from his helfrost cannon into the Carnifex, and a frozen chunk of the monster fell from its side, but it barely slowed. The tide was about to turn on the Wolves, but Bjorn could not let that happen. He pivoted quickly and snapped a perfect shot into the containment field generator that housed the Murderfang, the wolves would need his savagery.

The Lone Wolf Tyr was at peace during the murdermake and here he had found serenity. He and his wolves charged the supressed horde, risking friendly fire to ensure his claws found a home. He could not have known that a larger prize was on its way. A thundering crash resulted in a plume of snow and dust. The long tail of the Mawloc came quickly into view, lashing wildly at the armoured carriers. Tyr dropped the leads of his wolves and paused as they charged the Monster. They would die an honourable death, and Tyr would have the space he needed. As the creature easily swept aside the wolves Tyr dove headlong, claws extended into the space created under the creature’s head. Sliding down the beast’s chest, Tyr released his left hand and drove an underhanded blow into the creature as his momentum brought them crashing down.

Bjorn’s second shot into the Carnifex had met with the same ineffectual crackle. The beast hardly seemed to notice two of its appendages snap from its husk. Murderfang had already taken his first steps, and started his charge at the enemy, and Bjorn was thankful the Feral One could make the distinction. Murderfang was as crude as he was deadly, barrelling into the centre of a rending horde. His first swing mangled the brood lord but the swarm overwhelmed his frame with claws and teeth.

The massive frames of the Carnifex seemed to gain momentum as the wolves began to thin the horde. A desperate shot of Helfrost missed the target and the creatures closed on Bjorn’s position, their massive armour plates slamming into the ancient machine, sending him crashing into the snow. From underneath a swarm of Genestealers Muderfang’s rage turned into fervour, his movement becoming more deliberate and efficient. Seeing his chapter’s greatest warrior broken on the ground connected to the last shards of the marine within the Feral One, and his retribution was swift. Murderfang’s rampage caught the monsters on their flank, smashing them into each other. Murderfang found a home for his claw in the hole cut by the Helfrost cannon. His second maneuver took the head clean from the grounded Carnifex. He continued to scan for his next target. His focus locked on Tyr who was holding a piece of Bjorn…

Tyr wrestled to get Bjorn’s cannon operational. The ancient one was smashed, but not destroyed and Tyr new they faced a new danger. With two bursts he secured the feet of the Feral One and as he lined up his final shot he realized just how narrowly they had escaped disaster. He did not want to be one to explain to Logan Grimnar what had happened here.
