Brother needs help, Friendly game against Eldar on Friday.

Hi everyone

I am playing a Mate this Friday, 1850 points.

He is playing Eldar, I am playing Space Wolves.

Just a friendly, so not uber competitive lists.

He is bringing 2 Serpents, with a mix of infantry and maybe some walkers and jetbikes. I think he may not bring any Physcic.

I am thinking about running a list of units I want to try out rather than uber competitive, but still want it to hold its own.

Here is what I am thinking about running.

Several units are units i have not run before and want to run for fun to see how they do.

x3TWC x2 SS, x1 TH, x1 WC

x1 Harold

x5 Void claws.

Arjac attached.

x1 melta dread in a DP

x1 Stormwolf Empty

x10 Skyclaws I have set aside up to 50 extra point for upgrades. Thoughts on upgrades for this unit?

x1 Wolf lord jump pack and wolf claws.

Set aside 200 points including upgrades and relics. thoughts on upgrades?

X1 Whirlwind, never leave home without one against Eldar.

x5 grey hunters in Rhino Plasma gun, sargent with combi plasma. - sit then on an objective

x5 grey hunters in Rhino Meltagun, sergent with combi Melta.

Objective sitting, or armour popping if possible.

X1 empty drop pod - with missle if points allow.

This lets me bring in my dread turn 1

The Idea is to bring the dread and voids in turn one.

Pop some armour and get into CC with the voids and Arjac ASAP.

TWC and Skyclaws rush up field to engage turn 2 while the grey hunters head to objective and the Whirlwind sits out of sight lobbing rounds.

Storm Grr hopes to come in turn 2 to pop more Armour.

I am running the Skyclaws and Skylord for fun to see how they play.

Running the TWC for obvious reasons and also have not run these before.

FYI: We have a home rule that TDA adds +1 wound to the models profile. So my voids claws at W2 and Arjac is W3.

This will also be the first game on my home made board and terrain!! Woot woot!!!

Thought ideas changes?

Have you considered making that Skyclaw pack into Wolf Guard with jump packs instead?  Just a thought.

While Eldar have historically been my best matchup (hence the name), I got completely slaughtered in the one 6th Edition match I played.

I just figured those extra points would be well spent on extra WS and Attacks.  If there was a piece of wargear you could buy for them that gave them those bonuses, wouldn't you?

When it comes to assigning wounds, I prefer them to be on my enemy's models.  But it's just academic as I haven't played in a while.

In some cases yes. but you get a much smaller body count for the same points.

I would prefer the extra models for the points.

WS will not effect me hitting Eldar, so i am still getting 40 attacks on the charge plus the wolf lords attacks, plus possible Hammer of wrath.

Not much will be standing after that.

Honestly unless they are specialised for a purpose I think Sky claws are better for the points than Wolf guard / Skyguard.

If I took them, it would be to do something specific, like wolf claws for anti infantry, or TH/SS for the assault impact, or even combis for Armour or MC hunting, but i am not likely to do that, but as much fun as it would be.

Personally i think Skyclaws do it better.

The second DP is wasted points since a single Dp comes down round 1 anyway: take the DWML on it.

If the GH should sit on a Objective give them at least a HB Razorback for a ranged threat.

Im not a fan spending 20 points on Combi weapons in a 5man squad not in a Droppod.

I would only take Flamers on Skyclaws ( they can roast the guys inside the serpent).

And since the Skyclaws are your only real mobile unit instead of a WL i would take a WolfPriest with JP + RunicArmor and a Sky Leader with a Meltabomb for the challenges.

The FNP on this unit is much more worth than 1W and A more.

there are no TWC in your list....

Woops sorry forgot to list the TWC, it is in there now. unit of 3 with Harold.

Lol on the second drop pod cant believe i missed this thanks.

Still for capturing an objective 35 points is not bad.

Ok thanks for the advice on the combies. I will consider removing them.

Will also consider the Wolf priest as well. I think your right here... Would give me 90 odd points to spend elsewhere as well...

Maybe a unit of scout snipers.

But....... I really love my twin WC wolf lord... really want to try him out...

Hes called Old three claws, as one of his wolf claws is missing a claw. (I dropped him)

But in his fluff He lost it when he rammed it into the eye/face of a Carnifex.

Allowing his unit to take it down.

I would only take Flamers on Skyclaws ( they can roast the guys inside the serpent).

Sorry but this is not true, serpents are not open-topped. Many players would love this as we would see a lot more scorpions and banshees.

Remember, that most of our units have a range advantage over eldar. Our heavy weapons hit at greater range, our infantry weapons hit at greater range. This is important because of bladestorm. Their infantry weapons will rip most anything T4 apart at 12 inches (18 for dire avengers). So get close enough to shoot them, try to stay out side their range, let them get into your rapid fire range, then hit them hard. Remember eldar battle focus, and that they have fleet, try to use that to your advantage. Think about the long game, dropping stuff at his back will severely hamper his mobility, as he deals with whatever you put back there. Hammer those serpents hard, and kill whatever comes out quickly.

Find his weak point and hit it hard. You got this.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I will let you know how it goes.

The format has changed a bit now.

Its been changed to a 2v2 Eladr and Wolves vs Eldar and Dark angels.

My Ally is running

farseer on jet bike with cloak

6 jetbikes + 2SC

5 Dire avengers x2

Warp spiders x6

Wave serpents x2,

War walkers x2 or 3

Farseer will be trying to Fortune my TWC as much as possible.

I will be running

x3 TWC x2 SS Chainswords.

x1 TWC Battle leader TH/SS

x5 Void claws - Two wounds a peice

Attached with x1Arjac

DP with Melta dread

Storm wolf.

Not a lot of models, but a lot of pain and everything is either a Vehicle or has 2 wounds.

So I still get to crush some Eldar, but also get the fun or crushing some Sons of the Lion.....
