Gman
So I'm about to go play my first 7ed game this weekend, and my first SW game since 5th ed. I have heard that for a regular SM army, the standard CAD detachment works great for the bonus to troops. I would agree that it would help holding objectives, purely on a theory basis. However, I'm not sure if that is best for a SW army, or should I go with the company of the great wolf out of our codex? My army consists of x2 GH units, x1 BC unit, x1 LF, x1 TDAWG unit. Lord Blackwood
Champions of Fenris is great if you are using A lot of Wolf Guard , Thunder Wolf Cavalry , Terminator Wolf Guard ( it is my preferred detachment) You seem to have the models that support either a combined arms detachment whch would give a lot of your models objective secured for maelstrom games or a Wolves unleashed detachment Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303260-what-detachment-do-you-use/#findComment-3945740 Share on other sites
Vykryl
With your posted options stick to CAD for Objective Secured unless you want to run 3-6 HQ units. Wolves Unleashed let's you run up to 6 HQ units and 1 guaranteed coming from reserves a turn. Company of the Great Wolf is popular but that's for people running lots of TWC and Wolf Guard, it gives +1 weapon skill to those units Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303260-what-detachment-do-you-use/#findComment-3945750 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I run formations from CoF, backed up by a CAD. If you're doing high points games, Put your elites in CotGW (save for dreads, unless you want a lot of them), and troops in a CAD. That way You get the best of both worlds. Gman
Sounds as if there some good and fun options with the new system.? I hadn't even considered the fact you can use more than one detachment if the points support that configuration. I'm assuming the game is still promoting that troops do all the work when it comes to objectives in those scenarios. If so, then how are lists heavy with TWC able to provide enough troops to be competative? Is the key just to completely whipe out your opponent, so it doesn't matter if you only have 2 troops, as they have none left on the board? Donkalleone
If you dont have enough models or specialized Army i would stick to CAD. There is a 500pts TWC CoF Build but its cheese. Yoyo ninja
For the troops you have I would go CAD. Unless you really want to specialise your force it probably the best way to go. Sorry about including irrelevant info. How are the TDAWG configured? Troops do not do all the work, everything is scoring now (with a few exceptions), but CAD keeps your troops scoring if a non-troop unit is contesting due to the "objective secured" special rule. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Champions of Fenris, and sometimes Champions of Fenris. When I am not running a lot of TWC or TDA, I run the Champions of Fenris. Gman
ROFL I nearly spit coffee on my keyboard reading the last few posts. :D I do intend to expand the army an grow the collection, so the information was not irrelevant, just not relevant ATM. hehe My TDA are pretty standard, nothing to take advantage of anything special or totally chees them out. They were build back in the day to be an escort for Logan. x1 2WC, x2 PS/SB, x1 TH/SS, x1 PF/AC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303260-what-detachment-do-you-use/#findComment-3946586 Share on other sites

Skallagoose
I have a tournament coming up next month that I'm using Space Wolves Champions of Fenris mix with Space Marine allied detachment. Champions gives that +1 to WS to your better units. Pretty awesome. However the only thing i use in reserve in that list is a drop pod. If i was playing with a flyer or designated in reserve unit i would play with The Wolves formation for that assured unit coming in from reserve. Objective secured isn't a big deal from what I've seen. What is a big deal is not having your flyer come in until bottom of turn 3/4. Stormwolf full of troops is 250+ points wasted.
