Prospero HH book

Good news everybody!

I was at the HH Weekender and we were told that Prospero will be the 7th book in the series. Given that the next book is released in May (detailing the first 18 hours of the invasion of Calth) and the 8th will be at the end of the year (detailing the Underground War on Calth and possibly the Shattered Legions) we should be looking at Spring 2016 to see the Wolves.

Apparently this delay is twofold, firstly; they need time to make the models, secondly; they need to do a lot of playtesting to stop the 1K sons being too overpowered in the psychic phase.

They have also employed Jes Goodwin's daughter to do decals and brass etch, I asked if this meant that we will see brass etch that details great companies other than Ragnar's on the brass etch and was told - maybe soon, but definitely when the Prospero book drops

For someone who is just recently returned to the hobby - can you please elaborate on what you are talking about?  What books are these, and how do models and details fit into all this?

The Horus Heresy is the book series Forge World is doing, and it features the legions as they were in 30,000 during the Horus Heresy. Each book is a fairly large volume containing updates, new units, and most importantly rules for the legions.

The first book featured the Sons of Horus, Emperor's Children, World Eaters, and Death Guard. The second book featured the Iron Hands, Salamanders, Word Bearers, and Night Lords. The third book featured Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, Raven Guard, and Imperial Fists. Book four is an anomaly, but covers 30k Imperial Knights and 30K Imperial Guard. The Mechanicum feature strongly in all four books as a new army.

He's saying that the book that contains the war for Propsero (which feature the 30K Space Wolves prominently) called 'Horus Heresy: Inferno' is not going to be released until sometime next year. It contains unique units, unique heroes, and rules for the 30K Space Wolves along with their Primarch Leman Russ. The reason for the delay of the book is because of the balance issues the Thousand Sons would create if they were introduced into the Horus Heresy since they focus on psychic powers.

I'm sorry, but at least one of those excuses rings somewhat hollow. The whole 'need time to make the models' thing. Precedent is not on their side here, as they have previously shown that this isn't a concern. Unique Legion models/upgrades have tended to come way after the rules for them drop in the books. Just look at the Extermination Legions, Contemptors aside, only the Fists have received anything of major significance. IW, RG and AL are all still waiting for their unique units, upgrade kits and characters (hell, the RG don't even have pads yet). They claimed that Conquest was to give them time to catch up, but instead they forged ahead into Solar Auxilla.

As for the second one, that could be more legit. But raises some more questions. We've been told that Prospero was pushed back about 2/2.5 years, a little less than a year ago. How much playtesting do they need? That's as long/longer than 7th edition would've had for planning, writing and playtesting, seeing as 6th only lasted 2 years.

If anything, I'd be more inclining to believe 'Yeah, we got distracted by other shiny stuff and sorta forgot, our bad guys. But at least the stuff we've done is cool.' That seems more accurate representation of how FW plans these things, especially given the unpredictable nature of their releases. Case in point, at least doing shoulder pads for all 18 Legions would've been relatively quick and easy, throwing a bone to those fans who were facing a long wait for their time in the spotlight (all sympathy to the Scars). But that isn't what we got.

But eh, maybe I'm just overly critical and knackered. The length of wait (combined with the continued additions of derp to 40k Wolves souring me on GW somewhat) for coverage of one of the earliest engagements of the Heresy (while there's already heavily corrupted Word Bearers on the hoprizon, as well as speculation about Daemon Angron) has made me rather jaded and bitter.unsure.png

Caustic  - spot on the money there.

Leif, RPR - the good news was more that they have confirmed (in as much as FW does) that the 7th book will be Prospero and that the timeframe given last year of 2-2.5 years looks closer to the 2 year mark (ie early next year).

On the model front, they said that they wanted to be releasing the 1Ksons and Wolves close to when the book drops as they know they will sell well - hence the delay.

On the rules front, it was more the Custodes and Sisters of Silence that have been requiring the playtesting as they will be in the same book. The specific point being that they wanted 'good armies that played differently to the other armies already out there as if they played the same what would be the point?'

I'm sure you'll find most of this on the rumours forums anyway

I would have thought the 'make models' issue would be more of a problem for custodes/sisters. I mean, there are lots of relevant bits for cobbling together a 30k wolves army already. More would help IMMENSELY but it's not like we don't already have legion Mk ii-v kits, plastic space wolves sprues with pelts, etc. We have a starting point and if the book came out 6-12 months before the bulk of the models, i'd be grumpy but relatively ok.

On the other hand, kitbashing and/or converting something to look like custodes/sos is a much more ambitious undertaking. If those models didn't come out around the same time as the books, it would make it hard for people to actually start collecting either army and might even lead some impatient enthusiasts to look to third party bits to patch gaps in the model line. So I imagine FW will need to release, at minimum, one or two basic infantry kits for both armies for release alongside inferno.

At least, that's what seems sensible to me. I don't have an inside source or anything like that.

I would just read it as HH Prospero is coming sometime, but nobody really knows when... It was supposed to be the 4th book. Now its the 7th book

The only plus side is they might actually give themselves enough time to make sure it is the best book of the lot.

I'll believe it when the book is confirmed to drop..Unlike the Bran Redmaw model.
