Emperor's Furor
I've always wondered what came first, the Ultramarine name or the domain of Ultramar? I've always assumed the XIIIth legion adopted the name Ultramarines after being reunited with Roboute Guilliman and his mini empire. What do you think though? There's been many discussions about how legions were somewhat changed after their reunification, but I don't think I've ever seen or considered my self how different the original legion was. jeremy1391
Wouldn't be surprised if they get a pre primarch color scheme and maybe a nickname. Haven't all the legions gotten a pre primarch scheme? Leif Bearclaw
No. The closest they'll get is an unofficial nickname, like the X were 'Storm Walkers' before Ferrus was found. Betrayal tells us only 4 Legions ever changed their official names; The War Hounds, Dusk Raiders, Luna Wolves and Imperial Heralds. Emperor's Furor
Raven Guard had some names like the Pale Nomands and still wore grey. Salamanders were known as The Fearless by army units and somehow had already started to adopt green as their colour before Vulkan showed up (Although they did use the black and yellow rogue trader scheme as camouflage apparently.) Imperial Fists were known early on as the Imperial Fists, like the Imperial Heralds but never changed their name, only adopted the full yellow scheme after joining with Dorn rather than the yellow arm, which reminded me of the Dusk Raiders red arm. Dark Angels went to black from the grey beginnings and adopted The First and such titles. I don't think it's fully explained how the Warhounds had such diverse colour scheme considering their nature and the time they spent doing nothing. Space Wolves probably kept the grey of the founding much like the Heralds and Word Bearers did until they changed to red. I'm assuming the White Scars were different and can't wait to see how their legion pre-khan acted. I'm just not sure what category the Ultramarines will fall into. Will they keep the grey until their Primarch shows up, what if any will their nickname be prior to Roboute, or did the idea of the Ultramarines arrive prior to their meeting with Roboute and Roboute adopted it and spread it over his Empire as deference to the Imperium and his new legion? Skalpynock
(Kurama, I don't think that picture complies to the rules) I'd be surprised if they didn't have a prior nickname, however unofficial. I'm really eager to know how much difference there were between the XIII Legion and the Ultramarines.
