horgoz
as the thread title says, I am currently considering creating a chapter on my own after having spent most of my time in the hobby painting Blood Ravens. however when creating my colour scheme I have a small issue, namely the fact that I don't want to accidentialy immitate ny cannon chapter in colours. here are two pictures using the space marine painter: tactical: assault: I have been looking around but has been unable to find any chapter that looks similar, am I right in that there is no GW made chapter that shares it's look? Conn Eremon
I didn't notice any going through a pictorial list over at Lexicanum. However, I should point out that there are many color schemes that GW repeats in official Chapters, especially red and black. So it is already a well-established truth of the 40k setting that Chapters can share color schemes (not to mention names and even symbols). Tiberius Cato
Imperial record keeping is so bad that it's not unheard of two completely different chapters sharing the same name, heraldry, livery, and numerical designation. So whatever colours and name you go with is totally fine, even if it matches an official chapter. Olis
The colours look alright, although I think the head crest might be a pointless addition. Would it be possible to see a mock up with that bit red rather than yellow? Edit - And I think the regular backpack could do with being just yellow, too, instead of two colours. I liked the black on the shoulder pads so much that I decided to make the head crest colour part of which company the unit is instead of the trim of the shoulder pads, I completely forgot to mention that earlier. here is a quick change with the head crest being red and the backpack all yellow: personally I prefer the backpack to be in two seperate colours, the main part yellow with the two exhausts being kinda bleached bone, we will see how it looks when I paint the figure. if you have some other ideas to show company alligiance besides roman numbers I would be happy to hear them. Olis
To be honest, I've never been a fan of the idea of denoting companies by colour. It messes up colour schemes. I far prefer utilising numbers (or numerals) for such a purpose - either on the shoulder pad or the knee. In regards to the changes, I much prefer the new iteration. It feels more unified. This is just my opinion, mind you, so if you disagree, then that's up to you - it's your chapter after all.
