jeffersonian000
Ignore the box set. Selling that Land Raider kit is going to be a pain, no one uses them (not even 30k players). Your purchases should be; 2-4 x Terminator boxes (depends on how many you wish to run, but 10 minimum for Troops purposes) 2-4 x Dreadknight boxes (2 are bare minimum in all lists, ideally run 3-4) 2-3 x Strike squad boxes (best value for money in terms of PA models. Also, you won't ever need more than 30 x PA models, 20 is usually heaps) You can make all our heroes except Draigo using Terminator bits, so don't bother buying the overpriced metal GK ones. I'd also pick up an Aegis Line for a Fortification. With a Comms Relay, it really help make the Nemesis Strikeforce work as intended. Without it, you're at the mercy of Reserve rolls. Stupid question time: Where would I find the rules for the Nemesis Strikeforce? Codex? Is there anywhere else I need to look for GK formations? Also, how do you config the PA models (I wouldn't want to waste any on 'dumb' loadouts.) And just to be sure: Purifiers/Interceptors aren't worth it? The NSF is in the codex. As the PA, keep them cheap, so no weapon upgrades beyond 1 Hammer per 5 models, and only Incinerators. Some people will tell you the only way to run PAGK is as interceptors with incinerators and no other upgrades. Other people say that interceptors are too pricey for jump infantry, and just to go with strikes with an incinerator and deep strike them in. Yet others will say that strikes are trash, and if your going to run PAGK they need to be purifiers. And then there are people who will say that since purifiers can't deep strike, you should give them psycannons or no ranged upgrades at all. Then there is that group that asks, "why did you buy PAGK to begin with?" The truth is, There is no right answer to this question. Run them how you want. Try playtesting different options and remember, magnets are your friend . Personally, I run 5 purifiers with 2 psycannons in a rhino. My Rmy has a boatload of S7 rending shooting, certainly enough to down a wave serpent, land raider, or even an imperial knight in a single round of shooting. But I've had lots of experience with this army, and didn't give up when the Internet said my choice was "bad". So do what you want, and make it work for you. You might lose, but you'll probably end up learning in the process, so that's not so bad, right? Well, at least we all agree that purgation squads are a joke :) And strike squad promoters are few and far between.... Reclusiarch Darius
And strike squad promoters are few and far between.... My biggest frustration with Strikes is that they're nearly viable. Like, so close. Purgation are trash and no one cares they're not useful (they've literally never been a good choice, even in 3rd edition). All Strikes need is psybolts back and the Salvo rules fired into the heart of a sun. I'll still say they're cheap if all you want is DK's (say for Allies or for a DK spam list). But they're like Scouts now in that regard; taken purely as an unlock for better things. Although Scouts at least can Infiltrate+Scout teleport homers... Regarding Purifiers and Interceptors, you need to experiment for best results. I find local AA and Marine hate makes it impossible to take PA units effectively. Purifiers in Allied Drop Pods are fantastic, Raven is a good substitute if you don't want to take Marine Allies. Interceptors are our only other fast moving unit besides Dreadknights, and they're scary as hell to backfield units. They're just fragile, you need to hide them so they don't die on the approach.
