The Deceived and Betrayed: The Twisted Path of Hypocrisy

“The zeal which begins with hypocrisy must conclude in treachery; at first it deceives, at last it betrays”

-Francis Bacon, Sr. circa m2

“The Tenth, once Iron but now just bitter cold hate.  None have suffered and felt the pain of Horus’s great betrayal like the Iron Hands.  They are lost; broken.  Cast adrift with the twin disasters of the Dropsite Massacre and the death of their Primarch, Ferrus Manus.  As their cold hatred and desire for vengeance against the traitors consumes them it also the only force that prevents the Xth from spiraling completely out of control.”

-Jacques Dyves, Remembrancer assigned to the Xth Legion (former)

“The dreams of the Emperor are naught but a lie.  There was to be no victory celebration for us in the end.  We were nothing, only a tool to be used, and then cast aside when no longer needed or broken beyond repair.  Do I feel deceived?  Betrayed?  I say yes, beyond the shadow of a doubt.  This is why our act of betrayal cannot be considered as such.  We are merely striking down the taskmaster that has abused us for centuries.  The Emperor and his armies will be ground under our heel and we will stand justified.  Only then will He know the abuses he lavished upon the IVth Legion.”

-Unknown IVth Legion Captain

“I love my father even now as I tear down his Imperium that I helped build.  All I want is for him to know the truth.  To look me in the eyes and tell me why.”

-Lorgar, Primarch of the XVIIth Legion Word Bearers

Hello All!  I've wrestled with how I might include all the models that I love from Forge World into my Word Bearers army while still keeping the XVIIth themed around the elements I love so much.  Then I started looking at other legions that had more direct access to Mechanicus units that I wanted and I naturally gravitated towards the Iron hands and Iron Warriors.  As I've mulled over these legions the last couple of weeks a theme formed in my mind that all these Legions all shared something in common.  They've all been deceived or have been betrayed by the ideals they stand for in some way.

I think the original quote of the top of this post sums up all three of these legions nicely.

The Iron Hands were logically betrayed by Fulgrim and the Emperor's children whom they shared a kinship with.  Further betrayed at the Dropsite Massacre they were nearly destroyed.  Now they are being betrayed by their own desire for vengeance and they're actively betraying their own flesh by excising it from themselves.

The Iron Warriors feel abused for years and sacrificed so much for the growing Imperium only to go thankless and unloved by the Emperor.  In a sense they feel betrayed and robbed of the ideals of the Great Crusade itself.  And then Olympia was a betrayal of the greatest magnitude for them.

The Word Bearers are a study in hypocrisy, betrayal, and deceit all around and fit nicely into the over-arching theme my project.

So my ultimate long term goal of this project is to create workable forces for each of these Legions.  The Horus Heresy, both from Forge World and Black Library, have given me a fresh perspective on the Iron Hands and Iron Warriors.  I've really grown to love them as I've research.  And of course, the Words Bearers have always held a special spot in my twisted heart.  Eventually the Dark Angels will also find their way into my project but not until FW releases rules/models for them.  I have so much in the way of 40k DA that I want something that differentiates them.

I will complete a fairly massive FW order in the next couple of days of most Iron Hands and Iron Warriors stuff.  While I wait for my order to arrive I'll work on the story and my Word Bearers models.

I'm interested, its always nice to see someone who is good at writing fluff even if it may be quotes.

Also, by the way for the francis bacon quote you have the date wrong, circa m2 would correspond to the 2nd millenium, m16 is the year 16,000

Ah, thank you for the correct. I intend to write some stories for the squads as I get them online. Mainly, these "quotes" were just to set a flavor for my ideas coming down the pipeline.

This should be awesome, love me some Word Bearers and Iron Warriors. Looking forward to seeing the start smile.png

What's not to love about the Bearers of the Word? I was never much for the Iron Warriors (at least in 40k) until I read their fluff in the FW books. Really looking forward to getting them going.

Yey the iron tenth

Same with the Iron Hands. Really love their 30k fluff.

So I'm back from Disney (Apparently the happiest place on earth) and I placed a Forge World order this morning.  This order truly represents me jumping into 30k as previously I have just purchased individual items like various individual MKs of armour, Lorgar, and some other Word Bearer stuff.  So for this start of this project I picked up the following:

Iron Hands Strike Force

Iron Hands Legion Torsos Upgrade Set

Iron Hands legion Heads Upgrade Set

Castellax Battle-Automata w/ Darkfire cannon

Legion Sicaran Venator

Legion Praetors

Iron Warriors MK IV Shoulder Pads

Iron Warriors MK III Shoulder Pads

My wallet now well and truly hates me and probably wants to start it's own Heresy.  Still more things on the shopping list but they'll wait until I work through this mess or when some Iron Warriors models/kits and Corrupted Word Bearers Contemptor are dropped on us.

Anyway, stay tuned!

AND it has arrived...

The magnitude of this order sunk in after I opened up the box.  I have ton of cleaning, building, and painting to do!  Not to mention the fluff as I get things together.

I think my first goals will be to get the Venator and Castellax together and put some stories around those two beasts.
