I, Adra'Melek, accept the challenge set to me by Brother Heinrich, and vow that I will finish building, painting, and basing Adra'Melek, Primarch of the Infernal Guard, before March 10th, 2015. Completion will earn me eternal glory, while failure shall yield me shame until Midsummer.

Here's the guy so far.

Ok, here's a quick before shot to get me off the mark.

DV biker squad.

Quite nervous about painting black as an overall colour as I've only ever done it once before with a WP and that was kind of hidden behind pelts, etc. Have a BT squad that I need to do as well, so looking to this as a warm-up.

Here is update one for me. I plan on adding the extra bits to them after they are painted (including their weapons and some stuff to the sergeant).

Yeah, as you can tell I love flamers, hence the Heavy Flamer, Flamer, and Hand Flamer all in one squad xD

I am thinking about possibly magnetizing the flamer though, that way I can switch it out with the Melta if I need to.

I usually don't like beakies, but I was just now thinking, could you imagine being head butted by one? D:

It was also the last one I put on, which is why it's on something other than a MK VI chest plate.

Very well, then, bushman101.

I, Aias, do hereby challenge bushman101 to complete a Guardian Angels tactical squad. If ye complete this challenge, may eternal glory be upon you. Should you fail, may eternal shame fall upon you.

I, bushman101, accept the challenge set to me by Aias, and vow that I will finish building, painting, and basing a Tactical Squad before March 15th (but probably much sooner). Completion will earn me eternal glory, while failure shall yield me shame until Midsummer.

Also, if I may pry, what colour red are you going for with the robes? If I may be so bold as to suggest crimson? Ah, crimson with cream accents as black accents have been done to death.

[/size]

Thanks.

Amber the LED shall remain, then.

His robes will be a dark crimson. I have the old dark red (Mechrite red? I think the new version is Mephiston red) which I'll be shading with Nuln Oil and Carroburg Crimson, highlighting with Evil Sunz scarlet and washed again with Carroburg to keep it dark. Maybe a last wash of Agrax Earthshade too as he's far from the cleanest, most well-maintained of cybernetic gents.

His face will be halves (his) right side black, left side white-cream, with the robe trim the opposite, as per the Ad Mech symbol. The bolts in the trim will be brass with a hint of Nihilak Oxide.

I got to work on his arms too last night.

One big servo arm coming out from under his robes on the left, the ubiquitous chain-bayonet as his left hand and his right -the form of which I'm not yet decided on (probably a skeleton hand done metallic) - holding his power axe...which I have to cut cog-teeth into.

EDIT:

Looking good, Arkangilos.

Yes, magnetising what special/heavy weapons you can would probably be a good idea. (And money saver in the long run).

Just need to base them now, I'll order the Dereddeo tomorrow morning

good night all and good luck keeping pace

To be honest, at first, I thought they lacked a bit more... blue. At least on the legion symbol pad.

Yet, they're Recon and it makes sense not to scream who you are to the enemy. Why should Alpha Legion get to be the only sneaky ones.

I do like the unmarked metal look and the subtle blue stripe behind the inverted omega. It really allows the fine touches of colour to standout, like the pouches and rifle sites. I may steal this for some of my own Recon marines.

Keep it up!

I will do just that in fact I enjoyed it so much I must now make a recon heavy force, ill get the misses to bring up the 32mm bases this weekend then ill finish them off, can still do with some more fine details.

At least you understand why I painted them like this :D

So far I've had my mates criticism go overboard

I have never properly painted black on a mini before but I do like the positioning of the bikes! Esthetically, will you be going with green wings or red ones?

Not an update just a question

I am dealing with a lot of grey as you can see. The hair idea came out OK I think, so I'm hoping to pick some brains again :)

Do I have enough color on the Dread to leave the base as is? Should I try to add mud effects to the base and Dread to break up the grey? Should I rework/change the base completely?

It's still early in the challenge so all options are viable at this point.

Well since I am already victorious in my challenge, I shall inflict myself on the person who'se advice left my proud Crimson Slaughter with a squad of Rubicae.

I, Lucio, challenge AndrewChristlieb to build, paint, and base a counts-as Marshall Helbrecht and a supporting 5 man Command squad. If s/he accepts and completes the challenge, eternal glory will be his/hers. If s/he accepts and fails, s/he shall wear the badge of shame until Midsummer.

I, Reinhard, challenge Badaab to build, paint, and base a squad of tactical marines. If he accepts and completes the challenge, eternal glory will be his. If he accepts and fails, he shall wear the badge of shame until Midsummer.

So more details added sorry for the flood of pics;

First off all, i like the scheme you've chosen. Very clean painting and you already know i like the trophies. Not just the chains, but the sculpted on on his chest as well. Now for the base I have to say they are both really grey. It's not the dread, that guy is pretty well balanced in terms of colour. Perhaps you could indeed give the base a couple weathering powder jobs with dry mud or fresh mud? I find that if you paint the base with a diluted 1:1 matte:satin barnish coat and then when it's completely dry give it a wash with weathering powder dissolved into copious amounts of isopropanol, you'll get a great weathered effect.

And lastly, i can't reach you via pm (is your inbox full?), could you challenge an open participant? Mind you there's some issued after my last update. :tu:

I've found that having dry pigments on the brush and stipling them into the areas you want them works too. Also if you put too much on you can move it around and blow/ wipe of any excess. Bit of pigment fix after and your done.

You can also create a wash using water which means you can brush off areas if it's too heavy.

Main tip I will give though is use a few different colours across the base to give it a more natural look.

Plenty of ways to play with pigments.

I, Flint, the Princess of Crows, challenge Nusquam, Son of the Raven and legion arch nemesis, to step from the shadows and to build, paint, and base a squad of Mor Deythan for his XIX legion.

If he accepts and completes the challenge, eternal glory will be his. If he accepts and fails, he shall wear the badge of shame until Midsummer. Either way, the gauntlet has been thrown for the two legions of the shadow clad. Come forth and prove that the XIX aren't the second coolest sneaky legion! :D

The duel of shadows begins!

@Forte - do you normally use the different pigments once one is dry? They just seem to blend into one neutral tone to me. More practice I guess.

@Augustus- do you mean in addition to my challenge I already made or as a replacement? Nothing is wrong my inbox that I'm aware of Brother but I'm still computer illiterate so anything is possible :)

Just a little wip shot while I'm waiting on greenstuff to dry...

I wanted my Marshal to have a bit more intensity then the standard model High Marshal so I started off with a set of running legs. From there I've just kit bashed a few things from the BT sprue, sternguard kit, and the bits box. I've still got to add a tabard and a few more pieces like the combi melta and backpack of course.

Magnetized so I can swap arms in the future for different builds. And my greenstuff chains look like crud. :/

Excellent, guys I believe everyone involved is now either challenged or in the process of negotiations!! Which is awesome!

UPDATED TO THIS POINT.

Some excellent updates being shown too! That Vulkan conversion by Andra'Melek is most impressive, as is the weathering on 200plus' contemptor's base. And don't rule out those greenstuff  skills of AndrewChristlieb, for that sculpted chain is too

EDIT: Please check if I haven't missed anything in the second OP, everyone.

@Khârn the Bloody: you still need to formally accept your challenge buddy. And by formal I mean at least say you do and provide a deadline!
