Close! They are from Anvil Industries. And just when I thought I finalized the scheme I found something better ha:

Have a little bit of clean up on the lines to do, but I'm happy with the direction.

Exactly what I had in mind in your thread. Awesome job. An entire squad like that will look great.

Just spent a bit of time late afternoon painting the mini diorama from Dosjetka challenge to paint up a IF........... it only way we of the IV legion see any IF Marines :D

Photos take a few min ago

Get a lot more work done painting the mini diorama & it should hopeful be finish this weekend along with a new unit I'm adding to my Iron Warriors.

So here are the pictures (though a day late :/ ).

The lighting is kind of bad in both of them (I have bad lighting in my apartment, lol. I live in the dark :tongue.: )

This is the general status of them:

And this is a closer up of my closest to being done and test bed for my newish paints and techniques. He's not done yet, but he's getting there.

Here is brother Mathial (I keep wanting to call him Brother Marsupial for some reason, and when I do that, I imagine him riding in a Kangaroo).

I'm trying to figure out how to get that white to look like marble, but if I can't do that I'm going to go with bone. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, and I had a disaster when something fell onto these guys. It ruined my perfectly clean looking brand new paint, and broke the sword hand off of my sgt, and my heavy flamer guy in half :sad.:

Fortunately those were easy fixes, but very frustrating!

A website I know of thanks to Forte, Massive Voodoo, has a tutorial on marble:

http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.jp/2011/06/tutorial-painting-marble.html?m=1

It's working on a larger scale than your white area, but could be worth a try.

I'm keen to give it a whirl myself.

You are going to drill those gun barrels, right? ;)

If you can get some photos in better light, I'd love to see them.

What's your recipes for your red and gold?

Thanks for the links Kierdale and Forte! When I get home I'll check them out!

You are going to drill those gun barrels, right?

Of course I am, lol. At least, most likely :tongue.: It's lower on my list of priorities for them right now.

What's your recipes for your red and gold?

My recipe for the red, as of now, is Mephiston Red with a layer of Red Ink. My dad got me quite a few of those before they were phased out years ago.

My recipe for the gold is Dwarf Bronze -> Shining Gold -> Gryphonne Sepia -> Burnished Gold

The bolter doesn't have the Burnished Gold added to it, yet.

I am only using Citadel Paints, but most of them are older.

Update #2 for my Salamanders Apothecaries. Just need some touch-ups* and a flat seal.

(Damn do they need touch-ups! Camera pointed out a ton of areas that need work!)

(Re-learning my old camera after a few years using an iPad, so apologies for image quality.)

Here's the WIP of Shade Tondeo:

And the start of my bases for the squad. Soon to be cracked streets when it dries. Takes forever for that technical to dry but it looks great.

Alright, so here he is at the closest to being done. Basically, touch ups are all I've got left (and maybe highlights, if I decide to do them). Oh, and maybe drilling the bolter. (And obviously the basing).

Are there any suggestions you have before I move on to the rest of the squad? Being the first one of the squad, he's going to be the poster for how the rest of my squad will be done.

How did the marble turn out to you guys?

Also, those are the first "gems" I have done (the blood drops that aren't gold. I've never done gem effects before). Any suggestions on making them better?

Also, disregard my messey background and painted hand :tongue.:

@Nusquam: Do you have a trick to doing those tattoos and designs on the armor?

Well after your awesome work I am not sure I am going to get your challenge to me done as money seems to have deserted me and I have no way of getting the model required.  Maybe the almighty Augustus will allow a rechallenge...? Unless someone has a Korvaydae and a MkIII Crested Helmet they want to send me... :laugh.:

Hmmmmm I'll check my bitz box I may have one around

What Korvadaye or the Helmet? Then I just need to work out a nifty sword and gun... or something...

Looks good.

A few ideas/suggestions:

Firstly cropping the image closer to the mini so we can see more of it (and less of your paint-splattered fingers  ).

I definitely think you should highlight it. If you don’t usually then now is the time to push yourself. A light red highlight, along upper edges at least. And a highlight on the gold if you can, too. A metal (Leadbelcher for example) drybrush on the bolter magazine, perhaps.

I can’t see anything wrong with the marble in that image. Then again it’s a small area so it may be difficult to see the marble effect. It looks like you did fine to me. :smile.:

I think those gems look okay. There are probably a lot of tutorials out there (one good one at From The Warp on eye lenses and gems: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.jp/2012/12/thoughts-on-painting-marine-helmet.html). Personally I do them a dark red first, wash it heavily with Nuln Oil, then add two (or more) lighter red/orange highlights in the lower left, the lighter smaller than the one before. Add a tiiiiiiny white dot in the top right, then use a gloss varnish.

One example here:

http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_9407/med_gallery_63428_9407_82734.jpg

In other cases I've washed it with Carroburg Crimson then done a coat of Tamiya Clear Red before doing the white dot, for a darker gem.

Lucio has an interesting recipe there though. Worth a try! :smile.:

Alright, I cropped it :P

For some reason that didn't even cross my mind before, lol.

As for the gems, that's actually what I did. A few days ago I saw Flint post something about gems (I honestly don't remember if she posted it then, or if it was something that was older that I just came across), and it inspired me :p

I also took some pointers from my local GW store guy.

Some Mor Deythan WIP updates:

There's a few so I'll conserve space.

And the future of their bases:

update: almost done. just have to highlight and detail. this experiment with my painting technique is really showing some good results on my end. i'll have to post a side-by-side comparison to my old style
