Arik Taranis
As the title would suggest what is the general opinion of the legion command squad are the worth taking or would it be best to take a different squad instead. Emperor's Furor
I like the idea of them, I'm thinking of adding one to my force purely for the look, but on the whole they're never seen worth it on a more practical level, at least that's my experience. grand_master85
Yeah I hve to free, there are so many better options out there. Id rather take a squad of Templars for my Fists or Firedrakes for my Sallies. Still, my Fits are getting a command squad cos Im at the paint where I'm now just making and collecting what's cool and what's not. Ive seen some amusing Combos with a Librarian on Jetbikes accompanying a Praetors command squad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303491-opinions-on-legion-command-squad/#findComment-3951032 Share on other sites
jeremy1391
I've considered a basic legion command squad in a proteus to be a backfield anchor to make my heavy support squads fearless (legion standard with the 6" fearless bubble from the hull. Athrawes
In every game I've played, the fearless bubble is phenomenal, combine that with they fact that they have 2+ saves and Ws 5 and you have a unit that is scary in combat with a versatile role. I never leave home without them in my list. I'd say that 2/3 of my games have come down to the wire and the fearless bubble keeping my squads in the fight has ben the deciding factor. ThatOneMarshal
I'm just wondering but are legion command squads stuck at 5 men? In 40k that and their laclustre combat stats make them used mostly for their special weapons and not in a close combat role. Is their anything unique about them. Also they have a fearless banner? Thats alot better then the 40k version. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303491-opinions-on-legion-command-squad/#findComment-3951481 Share on other sites
Slips
I've considered a basic legion command squad in a proteus to be a backfield anchor to make my heavy support squads fearless (legion standard with the 6" fearless bubble from the hull. Instead of a Proteus, if you have the points, why not an Achilles-Alpha? Its probably the toughest land raider out there and would supplant the Spartan if it had a Flare Shield (due to its immunity to lance). It has 2 TL Volkite Culverins (or multi-meltas but its technically not the same land raider), a Quad Mortar (shatter and frag shells) and capacity for 6. Perfect for a Command Squad, imo but 100 more points :P We're also stubborn in cover so that Fearless Bubble might not be that required (unless you're not playing Imperial Fists, I'm just assuming you are. If you aren't, valid point.) ++++ I can't see myself taking a command squad, realistically, due to the Legion I play. Sigismund I roll with Templar Brethren and a Primus Medicae. While I could use the CS to spam AP2 Weapons, I'd be losing out on Furious Charge (Templar) and +1 Initiative (Sigismund) and they wouldn't be able to tank challenges off Sigismund because he Has to Issue and Accept challenges. Polux I run with Phalanx Warders and the RoW for all the Benefits having a Shield Confers + the Phalanx Warders +1 initiative when charged coupled with Polux's ability to swing at initiative with his Power Fist while also having Defensive grenades to nullify any bonus attacks the enemy might have. Only if I were taking a Generic HQ would I consider them since I could give them Storm Shields (in terminator armor) galore and tank challenges away from the Preator. Hesh Kadesh
They're kind of expensive. For their cost when even moderately kitted out, apart from the Fearless aura, pretty much any unupgraded Terminator unit is equivalent (but also scores, has better ranged, and comes with power weapons). Command Squad, +2 Members, Charnabal Sabres, Combat Shields = 180pts, giving them a 2+/5++ in CC. Yes, they do have WS5, and can accept (issue?) challenges, but really I find that standard Legion Terminators provide an effective bodyguard. In regards to kitting them out with Jump Packs, or Jetbikes etc, well, that same unit above on Jetbikes, while making them more resilient also comes in at 355pts; for 25 more points, I can pick up 10 Jetbikes with Heavy Bolters, or for the same price, 8 with Meltabombs. For command squads to be taken, they need some better equipment. They're not bad units. It's just that they really bring nothing to the table that another unit doesn't - and with things like Typhon's or Rending Twin Linked CombiFlamer Assassin Squads running around in more competitive, I'd honestly reconsider bringing them to the table from that point of view. However, in more relaxed settings that they can do the job as another equivalent unit kind of decently, I'd consider taking them just to be a bit different.
