The Commissariat has been challenged

Commissar Elmo,

it has been noted by the Commissariat that discipline is becoming lax.

Guardsman bigted has the gall to challenge you personally to a Kasrkin painting challenge!

You must accept the challenge for the honour of the Commissariat.

If he is successful then he is favoured by The Emperor, but if he fails then dispense The Emperors justice...

(Art by Karl Kopinski; source - Codex: Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition, 2nd version)

Joking aside, bigted and I have decided to enter into a friendly challenge to help motivate us to complete some models.

The challenge is to paint a squad of Kasrkins (1 Sgt and 9 troopers) in a scheme of our own choosing,

to begin on the 23rd Feb 2015. The models may be undercoated/primed at the start of the challenge but "before"

photos are to be posted.

There is no end date but it is expected to take only a couple of weeks.

There is no prize for this contest, just the honour gained by taking part and the reward of having 10 completed models.

The winner will be selected by you, our peers combining the speed of completion along with the standard of the paintwork and improvement from earlier models. Hopefully this will spur us both on to exceed our current painting levels.

We will both make all our posts on this one thread showing wip as we go along

My entry is already in the planning stage to blend them into my 711th CCAB and I can't wait to get started but my Nephilim must be completed first hence the 23rd as a start date.

Fatigues: Chocochip

Armour: Green/Tan/Brown

Lenses: Red

Base: Sand/stone

Bigted, over to you ;)

Pfft, no Commissar is worthy of my respect until he has faced a Catachan Devil and killed it single handedly! That or beaten me in a painting challenge. If Commissar Elmo wins this challenge, he will have earned the eternal respect of the Catachan 2nd. If he loses, he may find himself in the same situation as all the other Commissars that have been attached to the Catachan 2nd (disappear suddenly and never be seen again). Seriously though, if he wins I will buy a Commissar, paint it up and add it to my force. If he doesn't, the Catachan 2nd will never have a Commissar!

I will paint mine with black armour, red fatigues, green lenses and a dry grassland base. At the moment I'm painting up a normal MT Scion to show my colour scheme. Two of the Kasrkins I got came painted, so I need to strip them. Good luck Elmo. You'll need it laugh.png.

What, only a single Catachan Devil? Make it two and Commissar elmo might even raise an eyebrow... msn-wink.gif You Guardsmen always complaining and making big fusses over the littlest of things it's little wonder you need the generous and compassionate guiding hand of the commissariat!

As the painting is due to start on Monday in earnest, here is my before photo of Kasrkin Squad Elmo msn-wink.gif

The eagles have been removed from the helmets to match up with my other guardsmen and the flamer and grenade launcher have been drilled out along with the Sgts helmet, then small rocks glued on the bases and primed in Army Painter matt black.

Man GW really should have stuck with the old Kasrkin style, or even the older bulky carapace ones.

Nice nod on the Karl Kopinski art, my favorite artist. Too bad he doesn't seem to do any work for GW anymore, his pics were awe inspiring. Luckily i also play Magic the Gathering and can still enjoy his art there.

I suddenly worry that I won't be ready to go my Monday ohmy.png

I'm stripping these pieces and I knew I had a lot to go through (the paint had completely removed several details) but I'm three layers down and hit another layer of primer. I can only assume I'm the umptienth owner of these pieces and the first to strip them before repainting instead of just staring over on top of the previous layers. Hopefully a full night under pine sol will fix this.

I've spent the week procrastinating, so I haven't made any progress on my squad, they're still unprimed and two need stripping. I don't have anything to strip the models but I will hopefully get some dettol soon to strip them. My colour scheme has changed and will likely change more as I paint the first model, but at the moment it's dark grey cloth and red armour (when I tried doing red cloth and black armour on a test model, I couldn't figure out a way to make the black armour look decent.

librisrogue, you better start stripping!
