I'm looking to do a few Deathwatch kill teams with a watch master. What would be the best kit to use? Tac squad with deathwatch pauldrons? I haven't read enough about them. I'm reading the Guant omnibus right now and then onto the Eisenhorn trilogy. So do they keep their appearance simple or get all fancy with it?

I'd say the look of a Deathwatch very much depends on his parent chapter. Some chapters love bling, some don't.

As for the teams, I personally run two 5-man teams using Sternguard Veterans, both with sergeants, and then I run a Captain and a Librarian with them, for 2x6-man.

The plan is to have them in flyers too, but that's another story :P

  • 3 weeks later...

The GW models have always been simple Tactical Squads with the upgrades. But personally I picture them With small little hints of their chapter showing through as it says they paint their armour black not replace it for a Black set.

There is an awesome example here in the Hall Of Honour

I don't see the reasoning behind not painting the whole left arm silver. Some of those models have it, some don't. This is Deathwatch- there is no option :furious:!

Anyway, I agree with Noctem. They get to keep all their little trinkets (some say they can't leave with any they gain while on Watch Duty but, eh, Space Wolves) from when they go. That means Space Wolves get their totems and Blood Angels get their chalices which means more modeling opportunities for us :biggrin.:! The only difference is the paint job: all black armour except for their Chapter Icon which gets swapped to the right pauldron and their left arm which is silver along with the new Deathwatch pauldron. That way their armour's Machine Spirit isn't angry at the sacrilege of a new paint job (never made sense to me why that would affect a computer but it's canon).

I'm going to get some vanguard vets going as well because they're cool as :cuss. This mixed with Inquisition forces will be a fun force to game with. Not to mention stormtroopers. I really don't care if I lose. I'm a beerhammer vet and enjoy the background.

So how much is too much.

Came across Deathwatch Kill Team: Talon http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Kill_Team_Talon and got to working on a list for it. Ended up with using the C:SW Champions of Fenris supplement to get a list of  1 - 4 HQ and 2 Elite. So list becomes:

Inquisitor Sigma - Commander  Ordo Xenos Inquisitor

Lyandro Karras, "Scholar", Talon One - Codicier of the Death Spectres  Rune Priest

Darrion Rauth, "Watcher", Talon Two - Battle-brother of the Exorcists  Wolf Guard

Maximmion Voss, "Omni", Talon Three - Sergeant of the Imperial Fists  Wolf Guard

Ignatio Solarian, "Prophet", Talon Four - Battle-brother of the Ultramarines  Wolf Guard

Siefer Zeed, "Ghost", Talon Five - Battle-brother of the Raven Guard  Ulrik

Chyron - Talon Six - Dreadnought of the Lamenters  Murderfang

At 460pts it's a bit steep but the infantry would have +1 WS, 6+ FNP, Prefered Enemy, Fear, Fearless, Counter Attack and Librarian Help and Murderfang is a killer dreadnought with It Will Not Die.

Your views would be appreciated.

Slight change of plan.

Wolf Guard will become Wolf Guard Terminator (so I don't have two spare models in the unit) but I will model them in Artificer/Power Armour. I feel this gives a better indication of the "superiority" of Deathwatch and allow me to model Ghost with his Lightning Claws :)

So I'll have 3 models 2+/5++, one at 2+/6++ and one at 3+/4++ all with 6+ FNP
