Ultramarines Contemptor

I've had a pop with the Relic Contemptor:

If you've got the cash ready to spend in one feel swoop, I'd recommend mix-and-matching different kits to disguise the base figure. For example, if you get a Death Guard Contemptor, a Relic Contemptor and a standard Contemptor, you'll be able to swap around the parts to make three fairly lightly ornamented Dreadnoughts that aren't readily identifiable.

With regards to the Aquila, if you're being put into a dreadnought, you're already likely to be exceptional or a hero; so there's a perfect justification for why the sarcophagus would bear one front and centre. However, a little work with a knife is all it takes to remove it, if you decide to.

Finally, remember that you don't have to work with greenstuff to customise a plain Contemptor. A few bits like the chains and ropes with skulls on my Sons of Horus Contemptors (above) go a long way to differentiating; and that's even before you consider adding detail with freehand.

Honestly, you're probably going to be better off if you can be patient and wait for the Ultramarine one to be released. Which is a complete pain in the arse, because who the hell wants to be patient when , but you'll probably end up with a better result.

I did three Contemptors for my World Eaters, and these were a mix and match of the World Eater, Death Guard and Standard models, and a load of brass etch to cover my sins.

It's much easier to make them appear to belong to the same Talon (if that's what you're after) and give them each some individuality and character if you can build them all at the same time using bits and pieces from each kit. I swapped the legs, shoulders, knees and torsos around until I had something that made each one clearly a member of the XII Legion, but not any really more or less so than the others.

I hope that's remotely helpful, even if it's not the advice that you want right at the start of a new project!
