Merellin
So, I'm planning to get some drop pods for my Space Wolves. Thinking of getting three of them, But what should I put in them? My three Grey hunter units with Melta Guns? Or maybe a couple of axe and shield Dreadnoughts? (Dont own the axe and shield dreadnoughts yet) I'm planning to make a melee heavy space wolf army. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303650-how-many-drop-pods-and-what-should-i-put-in-them/ Share on other sites
pedrogzc
I have been using regularly 3 pod. Usually with 3 hunters but recently 2 hunters and one venerable dread with axe and shield. For many time have been using full hunters squad, with little success, now I'm going to try 5 member squad with specialist weapon and terminator wolf guard with matching combi weapon, I'm not sure if arming him with storm shield or leaving his power weapon. As you'll notice, the battle will be fought where you launch your pods, so better have an army fast enough to support your troops. Donkalleone
Without Army Details we cant be sure what is best. In my Situation im planning a Heavy Mechanized Army and using 3 Pods. 2 With DWML and Dreads in them (Usually Murderfang/Bjorn/Blizz) Dropping in to kill and cause a Distraction. While the Rest of my Army rumbles forward. Gemini
Depending on what else you're holding in reserves I've been having a lot of good experiences adding the Locator Beacon to one pod. Pinpoint deep striking in terminators (Lone Wolves in particular) later in the game has taken a lot of the fear out of using them. That having been said I like three, one has a dedicated 'Base' dreadnought and the second one I keep flexible depending on what I see coming at me with the third in reserve. Amarog
i've only got 2 so far but plan on beefying up to 5. maybe another 2 on top for safe measure when we have apocalypse games at the end of our campaigns at my local club. i love pods .... pods all day long. even if the unit inside does very little, that initial BOOM of a drop pod landing behind / at their flank puts it right up them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303650-how-many-drop-pods-and-what-should-i-put-in-them/#findComment-3955284 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Jbickb
Depends on what you want to do. I have run 5 pods at 1000 and 9 at 2000 and had a ball but I love null deployment. If they are support I wouldn't go more than 3 to get a decent alpha strike followed by a reinforcement later. Donkalleone
Im on Jbickb Side. If you want many Droppods go all the way for Null Deployment and Purchase at least 5 (or 9). WIth Voidclaws you have a solid combination and giving you great Round 1 pressure.
