Dev Centurions Tactics

If you just want a turn of protected movement to reach midfield and activate your Centurion's 30" threat range, a cheaper and I think even more efficient way to shunt them forward would be a cheap fortification with the escape hatch upgrade?

Someone let me know if I'm wrong, I think it should work out to be cheaper and better than a Land Raider while giving you a movement boost. Honestly just deploying as far as up as possible turn 1, walking 6" and walking 6" again will get you there as well.

A Landraider is in itself rather useful.

First of all, it lets you re-deploy them late game, and secondly it functions an an effective, hard hitting mobile bunker and cover. Av14 is fantastic in 7th edition.

Hell, if you're not convinced that's your call. I know that against Eldar for example, a Landraider is a fantastic asset.

I guess it depends. Are you trying to get the Centurions in position to react to the enemy's deployment and movement and kill/counter a specific threat? In that case they probably do need a transport. (I might even prefer flinging them out of a Stormraven, if their goal is to assassinate a particular unit.) If you're just blasting targets of opportunity, then there ought to be _something_ to shoot at within 30" in almost every game, and a transport seems very expensive.

I do know for a fact that I will face TWC.  My friend runs two giant squads of them with SS's and PF's a plenty and characters to boot. He doesn't have much shooting, primarily two of those SW flyer things with the stupid Hellfrost and a couple of dreads in pods. Against him I will not need a transport for the Cent's as his TWC will come to me. My main concern is keeping the TWC from assaulting the Cents.

However, that said the list I'm thinking of isn't just for facing against him but rather hopefully to take on other competitive lists as well. The list I'm thinking of is here for reference

You don't need to redeploy Centurions. They can reach the entire board from midfield.

Actually, that reminds me: I had thought of using the Raven this way. Just use the Skies of Fury rule and drop them somewhere where they can't Mishap. Even if they take a wound from a failed DT test, they still have one left.

This was my preferred method prior to the FA drop pod availability. It works extremely well, especially if you wait a turn and use the homing beacon so they don't scatter.

Chapter Master on a bike + Tigurius or some other Divination psyker, Perfect Timing(ignores cover), Prescience and possibly Misfortune(rending) and naturally Omniscope on the Cent sergeant. That combo gives you the ability to drop the CM's orbital bombardment with decent accuracy AND ignore cover, while the Centurions can annihilate some other target. Their hurricane bolters become devastating in combination with Misfortune.

I also like to run a TFC and bolster a ruins/some other terrain in my deployment zone and deploy the Centurions in there, relatively easy to get 2+/3+ cover save that way at least for the first turn if you have night fight, or if you get the warlord trait for stealth(ruins).

Personally I find a Land Raider too expensive and limiting, would be more efficient to run two squads instead.

Sadly, that is not an option for me as the only HQ biker model I have is a Chaplain and I refuse to run a filthy witch(Black Templar ;) )

Though putting them in a Raven and dropping them from it using either a beacon on the table or waiting a turn and using the Raven's does sound good, especially because they could care less about charging and are relentless anyway. The only problem with that is that it depends on your reserve rolls.

My favorite use of the Grav-Cents is with Tigurius.

Tigurius' role just changes depending on the opponent. For instance, against Astra (an example of being extremely out ranged) I will give them Invisibility until they can get in range.

Against a close combat army they get Divination, hopefully removes cover as well.

I did find though that at their incredible expense there are some games they really don't have a big enough role due to the wounding rules on Gravitron.

As well I started putting them in a Redeemer because my opponents started fixating on these guys so intensely I found a big risk in losing them very early because they really aren't that survivable on their own. Plus they are super easy to tarpit.... you gotta guard against this with some spammy armies.

In the Redeemer I find it 'safer' to get them at premium range, while using a flank of the Landraider to shunt off firepower/assault from the opponent's army.

The bad news? This is horrendously expensive and with Newcrons, no AV is safe from 24" away for more than perhaps 1 turn. (Plus add in the normal threats a LR sees every game.)

I'm starting to think the Grav bike squad is a better idea, but I confess I haven't had the desire to even try it. But the above would be my staple loadout for Centurions. (As a side note my serious lack of assault in my lists for Ultra's can be very costly if the unit gets tied up with anything above a beagle puppy.)

Assuming there is no los blocking terrain like there is in every game that I play.

If you don't move, that means they have to stay behind that LoS terrain or get shot at once they leave it, which is fine with me. An army that has to cower all game long behind a building is an army that is going to lose.
