DarkAngeal
Hello Brothers, I have been working on my chapter for a while now. When I started out playing, I knew I wanted to play Dark Angels (robes are badass) but a little while into my collecting I decided I wasn't a fan of the bone coloured deathwing. I picked out a colour scheme (red and a dark metal) and based on that, I think they are most likely a chapter founded by the Guardians of the Covenant (I would love help picking out a name). I'd like to start keeping you all appraised on how it is all coming, and as always comments and critique are appreciated. Really sorry for how long this first post will be, but I hope you like some of what you see! This is the version of Sammael to ride in Sableclaw And the version on Corvex is still coming along My version of the black knights use a pale green trim and wings with darker green highlights-- EDIT: Thinking of calling them the "Ghostwing" or something similar... something ectoplasmic to me about the green The ravenwing still uses red chapter symbols, but uses bone, black, and green on their shoulder pads Command Squad pics incoming (this is some of my more recent work) Command squad equipped with combi plasma, lightning claw, power fist, apothecary, and banner. This is a custom "Force Axe" I made out of a halberd of Caliban. I made it one handed, and used a skull to make a pommel for it I made a custom Company Master using some spare parts, very animated imo Next I am working on painting 20 Terminators to be used in a tournament list I am putting together. My (badly) painted Belial is in this pic too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303707-dark-angeals-guardian-chapter/ Share on other sites
Chaplain Lucifer
Take my comments with a grain of salt: The Black knight bikers need a more limited palette. You have greens, blues, reds, silver, black and gold going. They don't tie in as well as one might expect. The power weapons need more jagged lightnings and more colours, up to near white. One thing that doesn't work is the green power weapon with blue lightnings power field. You should do either silver or black with blue lightning. Another thing that can help your colours pop out is washes. Black wash is almost magic. Gives shading and 3D effect to everything. On gold however you might want a brown wash. Keep up the good work. I hope to see more progress! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303707-dark-angeals-guardian-chapter/#findComment-3956866 Share on other sites
DarkAngeal
Thanks for the advice chaplain! I haven't played with washes yet, but I will give it a whirl! I am not sure if I will change up the black knights pallet though, I like the flamboyant version. Maybe different robes could help it calm down a bit, but I felt like I was overusing colours and just wanted to diversify Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303707-dark-angeals-guardian-chapter/#findComment-3956944 Share on other sites
Chaplain Lucifer
In the black knights I would take out the reds everywhere in his armour, except fot the shoulder pauldron. In the bike I would paint the trim of the fender gold instead of green to tie in with the trim on the rest of the bike. Gillyfish
I am inclined to agree with Luci. If you want to keep the colours, consider using darker reds and consider repainting the green on the front wheel trim with a metal colour. That should stop the models looking too busy and will help to emphasise the lighter colours more. Washes are an excellent idea too. Basically, try to use the reds, blues and greens a little more sparingly. Used well, they can make a model 'pop' but too much can distract from the whole. Practice will help and and you have made a good start - the shading on the green feathers is a good example of that.
