Iron Priest War Gear Question

So I was wondering if I could field an Iron Priest with Servitors and Cyberwolves then later in the game separate the Iron Priest FROM said Cyberwolves?

The idea is to start one unit in a transport and the Iron Priest/servitors with ablative wounds. THEN when the unit disembarks the transport put the Iron Priest and Servitors in there to do their 'IWND' thing to the vehicle.

I don't THINK I can bring the Cyberwolves (type: Beast) onto a transport. If I can then that's an acceptable method of dealing with my question too.

Thank You Brothers!

If the cyberwolves are bought from the Iron Priest's entry, they are always a part of his unit and thus must always maintain coherency.

You can't use this as a means of getting "free" cyberwolves that are independent of their controller, so you'll probably have to choose between a guy who keeps the plane flying, or a guy who leads the robot wolves.

Precisely that. CW are equipment and thus always part of him (or the unit he joins) while Servitors are separate entry and thus treated like a regular unit on its own. It is possible to join a IP with CW into a unit of Servitors, but Beasts can not enter transports. So yeah, realistically there are three options: IP with Servitors in flyer to fix it, IP with shooty servitors in cover (this can include CW as ablative wounds but wouldn't make sense) or IP on TWM with Cyber Wolves advancing.

The idea is that once my Crusader disgorges its lupine fury on my enemy the IP and Servitors could get in and turn it into an unkillable TL Assault Cannon SUPER distraction unit. There's just enough chance that a stray blast template or line of sight that that could kill them off that I'd like some "insurance".

So I can switch to AV11 (Rhino 35 points) OR...

Ablative wounds (FA Fen. Wolves at 40 points) who could split off from the IP and shadow the BC's once they disembarked and then THEY could benefit from Ulrik's bubble/eat overwatch... Multiple roles on the table makes this option start to look better.

Unkillable until it is taken out in one go ;)

AV14 usually either explodes right away from Meltas or is taken out in one phase, usually assault phase. I find that dedicating a unit to repair it is useless, especially since LR is mainly a transport, not a gun platform. If you want some token repair going on, play IP on Thunderwolf with some CW to do some tank hunting. He is fast enough so that he can make some drive-by repairs. Sure, it is only 5+ but as I said, a LR usually does not need repairs because it either goes untouched or dies in one go.
