Wolf Priest Options

I'm working on a new list idea for my Tau enemies and I wanted to ask the forum for their opinion.

I'm aiming to run the classic 15 Blood Claws in a Crusader and I'm wondering if I should bother trying out a wulfen stone on a wolf priest with them, instead of Ulrik who may be better paired with my longfangs in a bunker.

List looks like:

Ulrik

Wolf Priest, Runic armour Wulfen Stone, combi melta

Plasma grey hunters in razorbacks 2x las, 1x asscann

15 blood claws, fist. Landraider

Long Fangs in a bunker

I will only see one riptide, so I'm thinking the 2 +, wulfenstone priest with melta makes that landraider a bit more versatile. If I choose ulrik, i get a nice bubble and monster hunter.

Is this an expensive blunder? What do we think of wolfpriests custom loadouts, or the wulfenstone relic on its own?

Thanks in advance

I'll second Immersturm regarding the choice between Ulrik and a random WP for the BloodClaw pack, while embarked you can potentially ride 3 tanks in tight formation up the center f.e..

Personally I'd prefer a Runepriest for the Long Fangs anyway, period. The old wolf would probably be bored to death so far from CC.

If for some reason Ulrik is unavailable or busy elsewhere, a WP with the Wulfen stone is a possible although costly alternative. The stone by itself is better used on a mounted Battle Leader leading cavalry imho..

I'd say give the choices a try and see what suits your game most.

I don't think I articulated all of the variable, but thanks for the responses.

My primary concern with a Rune Priest is that he can't buff them when he's in a building, unless I am mistaken. I really want a Bunker because he runs most plas and missile pods in his list.

Ulric just makes more sense in the advancing force, which is likely to encounter the riptide, and the crusader really benefits from PE as well

Being both a Tau and Space Wolves player I would agree wtih the other comments. Personally I would use the Ulrik up front and if you are going to buff the Long Fangs use the Rune Priest. His cheaper points should allow you to but some extra stuff in. I would also highly consider running Skyclaws with a Wolf Priest against Tau. I have found that to be very effective for their low points and damage output. Have you considerred drop pods ? Ulrik in a pod with jump pack or cavalry support can really tear up the Tau who generally sit back and shoot. It also eliminates their ability to manuever on you. Force the Tau to split their formations and concentrated fire.

I'm a fan of the Divination RP with Long Fangs as well. For the same cost as a BASE WP (no Stone) you get a RP with Runic Armor, Mastery 2 (for extra dice to roll for that divination) and the Instant Death force weapon IF they get assaulted.

The possibility of ignoring cover is very nice as well, because he runs an ADL. The issue remains, I need to keep them in a bunker or his ion head, or riptide will cut them down, and that means I am best served buffing them with a WP.

Thanks for all of the feedback !

I have played him with pods, but the amount of Plasma EWO he has means it can be detrimental to my health. I only have 3 pods right now, so its hard to saturate his lines with that strategy.

I have also built this list within the context of having clobbered him with thunderwolves in the last two matches.

Just started running Ulrik in a pod with 9 Grey Hunters with plasma pistol and plasma gun, then a second pod with ten Grey Hunters with two Plasma Guns and a plasma pistol. My third pod has 10 Grey Hunters with 2 melta guns and a power fist. I basically choose and pick depending on the enemy backfield. The plasma can really tear up a Tau crisis team that migh tthreaten you with plasma rifles adn Ulriks abiltiy really helps out. Plus if you are running up the field with that landraider he has some serious trouble coming his way. Sounds like you have it down though and hope to hear how your list does.
