Never_born
Enjoy! Despite my griping about how it's been advertised, it's a superb book regardless of how long it is! Very, very good. Did you buy it at the Weekender? I'm excited! And picked up Straken too (eBook) for the Service Stud... If only you got them for physical purchases :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-3957070 Share on other sites

Did you buy it at the Weekender? I'm excited! And picked up Straken too (eBook) for the Service Stud... If only you got them for physical purchases I couldn't make it to the Weekender but luckily for me, a friend was going so he picked up Ironclad, Blades of the Traitor and The Eagle's Talon/Iron Corpses for me. I really enjoyed Straken - as an old-school Guard player from many moons ago, any book with Colonel Straken, Sly Marbo and Nork Deddog in it is automatically a winner as far as I'm concerned! How many studs have you got now? Are you up to 6 yet? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-3957077 Share on other sites
Sviox
I'm just getting "store front error" when trying to proceed to payment... Edit: And it's a pain to waste time ATM as I'm currently in a hotel in India where even at best the net connection is crappy and is charged per half an hour of usage slots. I've not yet bought the Advent Calender collection... so I'm only on three! Hoping I'll get there... Have you done it? I've not yet bought the Advent Calender collection... so I'm only on three! Hoping I'll get there... Have you done it? Ooh, not long left to get the last three! I've hit six, yeah. Helped that BL were allowing purchases at last year's Weekender count, so I filled up pretty quickly there. It's going to be interesting to see what happens once we hit April. Word is that the scheme will start again from scratch, but I've not heard anything confirmed... SteelPaladin
Ordered mine. This thing looks gorgeous. If this is even half as good as Executioner, it will be well worth it. Finally got my 6 service studs too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-3957241 Share on other sites
hopkins
Halfway through it, and it's predictably brutal in places. Loving the intrigue bits too, and I'm guessing the embossed daemonettes on the cover offer a clue, and link back to the Angel Exterminatus and their journey through the black hole. Merely speculating though, no spoilers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-3959412 Share on other sites

hopkins
bit diappointed with this to be honest big tank battle, oribital war, virus bombing. yeah, we knew all that it serves as a background to horus sending an emmisary to find out what the hell perturabo is playing at then we have multiple layers of intrigue care of the alpha legion (working for alpharius) and a vanus assassin to find out why they are really there, and the purpose of the war, beyond it being a vast arms/tank store and en route to terra basically, the black hole spat them out there, as the cursus of algamar is on tallarn (more background on that here) i'm guessing they were guided there by the black occulus navigators perturabo wants it for power, but it's not really explored horus is pissed at perturabo for wanting said power/plot device they find it right at the end, but nothing develops then the iron warriors get the hell out of dodge what was the point? Apothecary Vaddon
Basically, in answer to hopkins - Perturabo at this point still hates Chaos' guts. I believe this takes place after Angel Exterminatus so he's really against Chaos right now, so he's finding a weapon so that he can nuke all Chaos followers if it comes to that. The reason the IW get the hell out of there isn't 100% explained but Horus' emissary had with him some sort of warp-based proxy for Horus himself who tells Perturabo to 'kneel', I'm assuming because Horus (who at this point afaik has been to Molech already, so he's godly) has some warp shenanigans basically forces Perturabo to do his bidding. Machine God
Sorry for the Threadomancy. I just received Tallarn: Ironclad and Tallarn: Executioner in the post from BL. Which one is set first? Sviox
Sorry for the Threadomancy. I just received Tallarn: Ironclad and Tallarn: Executioner in the post from BL. Which one is set first? You don't have to read them in any specific order, but chronologically, Ironclad takes place after Executioner. In fact, if you want to read/listen to everything about Tallarn, this is the chronological order (though again, the stories are quite independent): 1. Black Oculus (link between Angel Exterminatus and Tallarn: Executioner) 2. Tallarn: Executioner (opening shots) 3. The Eagles Talon 4. Iron Corpses 5. Tallarn: Ironclad 6. Tallarn: Witness (very short story set at the end of the campaign) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-4214028 Share on other sites
hopkins
As a huge IVth legion fan, I was bitterly disappointed with this series. HeritorA
Sviox - you did provide a full and consistent order to read/listen about Tallarn. Unclosed questions remains for the further stuff on this topic - like the fate of the Golden fleet; Emissaries fate and Perturabo road to Terra Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-4214777 Share on other sites
hopkins
Threadomancy time Gave the whole arc another going over and, again, I'm left wanting at the lack of POV from Perturabo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303730-tallarn-ironclad/#findComment-4274100 Share on other sites

HeritorA
Vanus assassin was cool. AL operatives were cool. Horus emmissary was great. But still wonna know what the heck happened to the Golden Fleet later on? And why the fleet admiral (rogue trader) decided to shoot every side - clear the atmosphere and simply leave? Any ideas?
