SW1
I've been looking at a few guides and it seems you can use different glass cleaners to thin acrylics plus clean up the airbrush afterwards. I'm going to be investing in some actual thinners/cleaners but need to order them in and want to try out the airbrush now without having to wait!!! I think I've got the right stuff but wanted to double check with those in the know. So is this the right stuff to use to thin paints alongside water: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee214/SW1-SWC/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps4619dbfc.jpg And is this the right stuff to clean the brush with afterwards: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee214/SW1-SWC/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps113c95c3.jpg Looking at the ingredients I'm guessing either would do for both jobs, is this right? SW1
Further research seems to have identified that prolonged exposure to the vinegar in both may have some effect on the chrome plating on the airbrush over time. So even though plenty of people are using the windowlene/windex for thinning paint I'll probably reserve it for cleaning the brush making sure I rinse out with water well. IPA and water seem a better solution to thinning on the cheap and if I want to get into detail spraying then I need to look at some of the branded paint thinners probably the Vallejo one as they have some form of flow improver. Funny enough this can be mimicked by adding glycerine to the water/IPA mix if your doing on the cheap but probably not worth messing about with as no one seems to agree on the quantities/ratios. MajorKhaos
The green Muscle stuff with vinegar is crap for cleaning, the older version was much better for cleaning the brush. I've had better success with the blue muscle multi task bottle. Worst case scenario, grab the Cellulose thinners. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303735-airbrush-thinners-and-cleaners/#findComment-3957787 Share on other sites
awilden
Personally I've always used Vallejo Thinners to thin, and Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner to clean it (although Badger make a cleaner that's a lot more cost effective, like half the price for 2x the amount of Vallejo, just haven't tried it as yet). For really hard cleans I've used a little 100% isoprophyl Alcohol, and then flushed it out after with the normal cleaner. I haven't wanted to try anything that's not made for airbrushes (just in case it does any damage), the alcohol is probably the strongest stuff it'd use, but wouldn't soak it in it, or use it too often (apparently it can dry out the rubber seals I've heard).
