Dealing with Dark Eldar

So recently I've been getting my backside handed to me by DE, including at the Caledonian Uprising Tournament in Jan.

I run a 10 Thunderwolf army with WGBL and IP versions supported by a knight and then whatever: Dakka dreads, Ulrik buffed fangs, ignores cover RP on a quad, stormwing/fang etc.

However when faced with their epic weight of fire from venom/raider spam I find myself getting wiped regularly.

How would you approach a fight against the DE? Consider eldar allies a possibilty too with summon seer, jet bikes, more skimmers etc.

I play DE sometimes, and I'd not be happy to see that Wolves list facing off against me. Is it mostly lance/splinter spam that you've been struggling with? I'd expect to see pretty much every unit mounted unless they're using bikes or a Webway portal. What have you got on your longfangs? Missiles would be my default suggestion, though heavy bolters make mincemeat of standard infantry, strip wounds from grotesques and can actually pen/glance all of their vehicles. Something to consider.

Another option is army build. If you have no vehicles, their lances are pretty much useless (bar killing single marines at a time) and if you have only vehicle mounted infantry, their splinter rounds are useless. It's quite frustrating to have 40 odd splinter shots with nothing they can actually hurt. Note that immobilized skimmers can no longer jink, as per the latest FAQ, which while making sense, is a little sad for my DE. Not a huge thing, but something to remember.

Flamer templates hurt DE in a big way. Consider drop podding heavy flamer dreads to grill units in raiders, and potentially pen the raider too. Should also work with your blizzard cannon thing (Is that template? I think so unsure.png ) Do your TWC have 2+ saves to tank splinter, and 3++ for look out sir against lances? I'd recommenced it.

Hope some of this is useful.

I just find that splinter spam erases thunderwolves in all forms and their jetbikes destroy everything on the charge. Even my knight titan! I just don't seem to be able to put enough wounds on the table to deal. The problem with template weapons is that unless it's a heavy flamer on a speeder, they are all really immobile.

Splinter weapons are a good counter to TWC as they can force a lot of saves. 3+ doesn't seem to go as far as it used to.  Counter it with IP's to tank saves which you seem to be doing.

You can also try drop pods.  Come down with flamers and cook what's inside all his transports.  And bolters on the rest of the squad should take the transports out.  Flame those jetbikes too.  They're nasty.

If you're using a RP to man the quad gun you should equip him with Helm of Durfast.  Ignores cover would be nasty on that.

played DE yesterday. Ran a bastion with durfast rune priest quad, ulrik and a squad of each heavy bolter fangs and lascannon fangs. They rocked. Durfast was immense. Prefered enemy fangs dud the rest. Beautiful anchor to the army. And yes, I won!

You run 10 TWC against DE? Well there is your problem ;)

If DE is good at anything, it is torrenting down higher T value units.

Things that eat DE alive:

Sicaran Battle Tank (preferably with Schizm of Mars)

Imperial Knights

Aegis with Quad Gun manned by RP with Helm of Durfast

Heavy Bolters (preferably Rapiers but LF do it as well)

Drop Pods (their tanks do not enjoy Bolter fire)

The trick here is to diversify. You can still run one unit of TWC, more if you have the points. But support them with other pressure elements like pods in the face and dakka like Quad Gun Durfast, Sicaran, HB and all that jazz. Then you will be good ;)
