How precious are you about your limited editions?

Recommended Posts

We know that Black Library like to charge premium prices for their limited edition material, but I am wondering if this translates into how people view and care for what they buy.

Do you take great care to keep the book as 'mint condition' as possible, or do you value the words inside more than the outside condition of the book?

I am interested as I try to keep all my books as 'mint' as possible whereas my girlfriend will bend back spines and fold page corners on any book she is reading (although she doesn't read Black Library stuff).

Pictures welcome.

i dont bend page corner, but many of my books have creased spines from re-reading.

as you put it, i care more for the worlds inside than the state of the cover.

and BL limited edition...i dont touch that nonsense. I'd rather spend my money on models or rum, rather than allow BL to price gouge me.

I never used to get them: now, they're a very strong desire. I'm definitely getting them for the printed content, although their presentation is a bonus. I do try to keep them in decent nick! The book marks as page markers help...

I don't buy the limited editions, but I do try very hard to take good care of the books that I have.  No folding of page corners and no leaving the book face down on the page I'm at.

In spite of that some books exhibit ware more than others.  Surprisingly not in accordance with amounts read or satisfaction I got from them.  Maybe my enthusiasm for the story-line extended to my care for the book.  Who knows.

But as an aside.  As I look at the book ends, I note that on the few that are exhibiting some use the crease on the spine are just right of the "The Horus Heresy" or the "Warhammer 40,000" signatures.  If there is more than one crease it's just to the left of the same.  It's all very symmetrical.  Must have something to do with the manufacturing process.

In any case, knowledge is power.  Guard it well.  Keep it pristine.

I've got most all of the BL limited ed. books and yes I do try and keep them in as close to new condition as is possible. Actually , I try and take good care of all my books but the ones that are more expensive get even more effort and that extends to which bookcases I keep them in but the same applies to my non-BL , non- WH 40 K signed or limited ed. books.  Someday when I kick, my wife can auction them off and treat herself to something because I realize  that no matter what, I'm not likely to ever sell them myself no matter what I see them going for in the online auctions.

I think they are a gimmick what annoys me really is that it's not just a limited edition version for diehard collectors. If that's what you want to do then fine I can understand it I had a serious vinyl habit when I was younger. But what I hate is that they are released up to a year before a reprint a couple of weeks or a month or two fine but a year. Event exclusives also annoy me there's no way with a family, a job where I'm travelling through the week and everything else modern life brings that I could consider making one of these even though I'd love to. Same as above really give them out at the event a little early and you would snuff out the eBay culture out there that has grown around these.
