Flamers on assault squads

Right, there's a good chance that this topic needs shunting to another forum, but as I'm at the point of cutting sprues, I've put it here for now.

I've recently built an assault squad for my codex DIY chapter and included two flamers in the squad, and to be honest they don't seem to mesh. All the other guys have pistol and chainsword and look like they're about to wreck face. The two flamer guys look more like they're hanging around at the back making faces.

Do you think I'd get away with modelling my flamer guys for the next squad each weilding a pair of hand flamers instead of the regular type? I just think it would look more dynamic.

I'm sure, if you point it out and explain it at the start of the game, most opponents won't have a problem.

I presume there are no models in the army which do have duel hand flamers as duel hand flamers?

One other option: if the rest of the assault marines are getting stuck in with their swords and you think the flamer- wielders would look strange then model those two also laying into the enemy with their swords (or pistols, whatever), with their flamers stowed.

There's some problems with this, as I'm sure you're aware. One is that Hand Flamers are actually a thing, and are even available to Space Marines like the Fire Hawks, so it can be confusing for WYSIWYG. Second, you have not one Hand Flamer, but two, introducing the dubious question of whether or not Twin-Linked is coming into play with these models.

Personally, I can understand where you are coming from. I would say one Hand Flamer is perfectly fine. Two Hand Flamers can look badass, like a gunslinger, but IMO that's going a little too far. Another option you may want to consider is using a Dreadnought or vehicle Flamer (or the regular one with the grip removed) and mounting it on the marine's forearm, like a GK Storm Bolter or a Tau Crisis Suit arm weapon. I think if you wanted to use two Hand Flamers it would be helpful to model them both simultaneously shooting sculpted flames that converge into a single large flame on the base.

There is also an easier alternative, which is to simply find a suitable arm for holding a Bolter one-handed (for example, resting the flamer on his shoulder), then putting the Flamer on that arm, while the other arm holds a chainsword.

But even though I said all that, I think you can get away with it outside of hardcore grand tournaments (and most of those will probably approve of the conversion once you send it to the TO for approval), so if you like it more than all the other options, do it.

Allow me to suggest an assault marine based on a pair or running legs with the flamer in the right hand and a knife in the right hand.

Ignore his poorly primed state (and he'd look more "go-time" if the blue tac would hold him leaning more forward, but alas):

I tried to remedy the sitch with posing. Don't know how effectively, but one of them is on his heels, pushed forward like he is just touching down from a jet pack jump. In my mind, that's basically what the flamer dudes are doing. As soon as they're in range, hosing down the squad while his mates land behind him and form up for the charge. Of course, my other flamer is really just standing there but I've never really thought it was a big problem.

I do like the hand flamers idea but as Kaedes pointed out, it could cause problems.

As long as you're not running Fire Hawks or including any BA (especially counts-as) in your army, the hand flamer should be fine, I've been thinking of doing the same thing with my wolves.

I actually bought a set of hand flamers and inferno pistols ages ago with the intention of modelling a couple squads of chaos marines this way but I ended up wanting to keep my counts-as options open with my CSM (and they lost ultragrit by default anyway).

I went for the 1 handed pose on one of mine and it turned out to be one of my favorite mini's. For my other flamer guy I tried to make him look like he charging angrily into battle. I even gave him a rare screaming flesh head(I usually hate them :p)

This is an old pic of them as I've since started to paint them up
