DV8
I STILL FUNCTION! It has been a long time since I've passed through these hallowed halls, and so much has changed! Life has, (un)fortunately, kept me rather busy, foremost (at least on the hobby side) for a while I was simply uninterested in anything 40k related (any gaming focus for the past few years having been centered on Fantasy, specifically my Vampire Counts). My non-hobby life has taken some different and rather drastic turns as well; moving up in the casino gaming industry has relocated me to Las Vegas, Nevada (one of the few Canadians (I hope) living in this state!) and work along with the lack of tournaments has really shifted my focus away from competitive gaming to something more relaxed. It also, however, removes a lot of motivation to complete projects.I am hoping that a more active Project Log will help fire up my juices again and get me back to the painting table to create some fantastic armies for myself this year (Sons of Horus for 40K, and Elves for Fantasy). For this army, I have chosen to do a pseudo Pre-Heresy army, timeline after Ullanor (where Horus was crowned Warmaster) and before Davin (before Horus was corrupted by Erebus). This army will be the Sons of Horus in the short time they were, loyal to the Emperor. What this simply means for me on the artistic side is that I will have no Chaos or corrupted iconography, but will try and build in some of the Cthonian tribal imagery that slowly made it's way back into the Legion. I will need to do more research on how exactly I want this to show through, but (at least initially) I will be drawing on the Wolves of Fenris for this (the GW Great Company's Painting Guide has some fantastic inspiration in this regard). And I say pseudo because I will not be adhering in any way to the Legions lists produced by Forgeworld. We play mostly casual 40K here locally (and I eschew taking Allies, preferring to build my army from a single Codex where possible), so I want to make sure the army is playable using Codex: Space Marines.Another "restriction" that I have placed on myself (partially to help completely break free of my prior competitive mindset) is that the army will be built as in Highlander fashion, without duplicate unit choices. Hopefully this will help keep the army interesting to play with and against, and create new challenges for myself (since I'm typically used to duplicate units for redundancy, especially with Troops). The roster: http://spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/XVI/feb25a_army_snapshot.jpg Warmaster Horus Counts-as Chapter Master, armed with a Thunder Hammer, the Shield Eternal, Terminator Armor, and an Auspex. On rare occasions, I will field him as the actual Primarch, with my opponent's permission of course. Librarian Level 1 (Telepathy). I know this is where I break the "Pre-Heresy" fluff a bit since the Council of Nikea has not been officially over-turned, but this will allow me to field a cheap HQ in smaller point games without breaking out Horus. 5 Justaerin Terminators Armed with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields. 10 Sternguard Marines w/ Drop Pod Armed with 5 Combi-Meltas and 2 Heavy Flamers. 10 Tactical Marines w/ Rhino Armed with a Plasmagun and Lascannon. 5 Scouts w/ Land Speeder Storm (Heavy Flamer) Armed with Bolt Pistols and Close Combat Weapons. 10 Assault Marines Armed with 2 Flamers 2 Land Speeder Typhoons Heavy Bolters and Typhoon Missile Launchers Stormtalon Gunship Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Skyhammer Missile Launchers 10 Devastator Marines Armed with 4 Lascannons Deredeo Dreadnought Whirlwind Thunderfire Cannon A nice collection of stuff to paint; I will at some point down the road add a bit more armored support (Land Raider, maybe a Vindicator), but I don't want this army to get too large too quickly.I've also started painting Horus, using Forgeworld's color scheme. I took some artistic liberties with his armor; technically Horus' armor was only ever two colors: the white-grey of the Luna Wolves, and the black with the Sons of Horus. I didn't want to paint his armor straight up black though, even with tinted highlights, it would be too boring. So I went halfway between black armor, and the teal/jade of the rest of his Legion (I will probably do the Justaerin the same way, but darker...on the fence if I want my Assault Marines to be Catulan Reavers at this point or not, but if yes, they will receive the same treatment). http://spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/XVI/feb25b_horus_1.jpg http://spacewithinspace.net/images/projectlog/XVI/feb25c_horus_2.jpg Ciao for now; updates as they come (projected time until project completion; ideally three months?). Life will probably get in the way, between work, playtime, and the lady. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Is that Coal Black for the coloring on Horus? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303974-sons-of-horus-xvi-legion-project-log/#findComment-3962445 Share on other sites
Radiation
Well you can still paint brother! That's an incredible start to Horus. The painting on the base is already killer.
