OK - because you said nice things to me, and I couldn't resist, I have MADE time...

March – Week one

As I mentioned in my short prelude, there have been a LOT of pledges again this month, and a strong showing from both teams, given our strong loyalist bias on the boards. We’re only narrowly behind the total pledged models and scores recorded at the end of January, which was by far our most successful month – things are looking good for March. We’ve also got quite a few first time pledgers, so I’d like to welcome richmarine, Dantioch, Black_out, Rage of Khorne, Lord Tharand, Sanguinius’ chosen wing, and Alpharius Omegron 108 to the challenge. Do your teams proud Fraters!

So this month we have to sub-divide the loyalists into two groups in order to track our intra legion war within the Iron Hands. Here are the teams:

The Traitors - followers of Horus - the heretics, followers of the warp (10 members)

Wyvern – The VIIIth Legion Astartes, Night Lords: Praetor, Land Raider and 5 marines (0/12 points)

Fire Golem - The XVIth Legion Astartes, Sons of Horus: 5 marines (3/5 points)

Richmarine - The XVIth Legion Astartes, Sons of Horus: 2 Apothecaries (0/2 points)

Gizur – The XVIIth Legion Astartes, Word Bearers: Contemptor and Mhara Gal Contemptor (12/12 points)

Dantioch – The IVth Legion Astartes, Iron Warriors: Deredo dreadnought and 5 marines (0/11 points)

Black_out - The VIIIth Legion Astartes, Night Lords: Sevetar (0/2 points)

Rage of Khorne – The IIIth Legion Astartes, Emperor’s Children and the XVIth Legion Astartes, Sons of Horus: Warmaster Horus, 10 marines, 2 Contemptors and 3 command marines (12/35 points)

Brother Vidius - The IVth Legion Astartes, Iron Warriors: Contemptor (0/6 points)

Chaplain Mortis - The IVth Legion Astartes, Iron Warriors: Legion Prevain and 2 contemptors (6/13 points)

Adra’Melek – Alt Heresy XIVth Legion Astartes, The Infernal Guard: Contemptor (0/6 points)

The Loyalists - beloved of the Emperor - the loyal sons (23 members)

Castiel – The XVIIIth Legion Astartes, Salamanders: 5 Pyroclasts and a praetor (0/6 points)

Kor’Vesh – The XVIIIth Legion Astartes, Salamanders: BUILD: 21 tactical marines, predator and an attack bike. PAINT: Rhino (2.5/13.5 points)

Barabbas Sogolon – XIVth Legion Astartes, Death Guard (loyalists): Contemptor (0/6 points)

Reyner – The XIIIth Legion Astartes, Ultramarines: Delegatus (0/1 point)

Kurama – The XIIIth Legion Astartes, Ultramarines: 2 Contemptors (0/12 points)

LionOfJudah – The VIIth Legion Astartes, Imperial Fists – Iron Fists: 10 marines (0/10 points)

Atia – The XVIIIth Legion Astartes, Salamanders: Contemptor (0/6 points)

Dim Dim – The VIIth Legion Astartes, Imperial Fists: One marine (1/1 points)

AND – One Predator (0/6 points)

Salamander Bob - The XVIIIth Legion Astartes, Salamanders: 1 Rhino and two pyroclasts (0/8 points)

Frostmourne - The XIIIth Legion Astartes, Ultramarines: 20 Veteran Tactical Marines, 5 man command squad, a Deredo dreadnought, one Praetor, one Scorpius, one Proteus (0/44 points)

Twisty - The XVIIIth Legion Astartes, Salamanders: BUILD: 14 tactical marines and 10 Volkite Culverin marines PAINT: 20 tactical marines (3.5/26 points)

Slipstreams – The VIIth Legion Astartes Imperial Fists: 10 Destroyers, 2 Rhinos, one Luna Wolves Legion Champion (0/23 points)

Alpharius Omegron 108 – The IInd Legion Astartes, Lightning Bearers: Praetor and Vindicator (7/7 points)

AND – Prevain, navigator, 2 castellax and a sergeant (0/9 points)

Including – The Sons of the Gorgon - The Xth Legion Astartes, Iron Hands

Lord Tharand – Sicaran Venator (0/6 points)

StruManChu – BUILD a Fireraptor (0/1.5 points)

Ironwrought Huw – 5 terminators (0/10 points)

Raktra – 5 plasma support marines, master of signal, and BUILD a sicaran (0/7.5 points)

Mind of Metal – 2 Castellax, Legion Champion, 7 man auxillia command, 3 thallax, 8 tactical support marines, 8 terminators, terminator siege breaker, veteran with heavy bolter, rhino, 3 seekers with combi plasma (20/56 points)

Sanguinius’ chosen wing - 5 Gorgons, contemptor, 10 man tactical squad (0/26 points)

Leoric – 5 Tactical Marines (5 points)

Owl and Moon Guy – Ferrus Manus, Thallax with MM, and devestation drone (2/15 points)

ROBOcaster - 5 Gorgons, 5 missile marines, 5 rotor cannon support marines, 1 sergeant, 2 rhinos, 2 contemptors and 1 sicaran (0/51 points)

Nevindar - 5 volkite support marines, vindicator, praetor (0/12 points)

As you can see, we really do have some serious pledging this month. The Iron Hands alone (190 points vowed) have out pledged the Heretics (104 points vowed) and the other loyalists (178.5 points), but Ferrus Manus only cares about success – you’d better live up to your pledges Gorgonites!

Current scores

Lots of progress on all of these pledges already, but the only two completed pledges have been in the loyalist camp, and both have been risked, giving us the exciting score line of:

Pledges – Traitors 0 – 0* Loyalists

*With two additional pledges completed and risked by AlphariusOmegron108 and DimDim

DimDim shot out of the blocks with a bold pledge of one marine: as he was painting it yellow though (maybe his first yellow fist?) we all understood his trepidation! Well he completed it in style, with some excellent damaged yellow battle plate, and impressive individual markings. He was promptly compelled by Raktra’s one-up-manship to make a second vow though, and we await his predator with baited breath! AO108 has also entered the competition this month, and didn’t take long to make his mark. Taking on his own version of the IInd Legion Lightning Bearers (beloved of BnC, and crafted by Athrawes – will he ever join us here in the casual challenge), he wasted no time in producing an excellent Praetor and impressive vindicator conversion. AO wants more though, and threw in a plethora of extra models for the March challenge.

Score – Traitors 33 – 36 Loyalists

Percentage of pledged score – Traitors 31.73% - 9.77% Loyalists

Tight. And thanks to some awesome work from heretical hero Gizur, new player Rage of Khorne, and Chaplain Mortis, the traitors have a solid lead in their percentage of completions!

Aside from our two oath keepers we’ve seen a lot of excellent progress this week. Breaking the habit of a lifetime, Fire Golem was the first to paint and complete a model in March, showing off three painted Sons of Horus. We’ve seen a dynamic (and excellently painted) Thallax from OMG, along with the base of Ferrus Manus. The latter, featuring Pink IIIrd legion scum, must be our most discussed base in the last 6 months (it is clearly awesome). Twisty has built 14 Salamanders, and I’ve built 10, but failed to show them! In his usual casual style Mind of Metal dropped in a quick picture of 7 completed Solar Auxilla command squad members, four terminators and a legion champion for his rapidly growing army – all in a day’s work for MoM.

For the traitors it has all been about Contemptor dreadnoughts, with Chaplain Mortis producing an intensely weathered (stunning) Iron Warrior’s dread, and Gizur dropping a Word Bearer’s Contemptor and Mhara Gal on us today (with his usual exception standards and glowing runes aplenty). Not to mention the exceptionally converted and annoyingly beautiful pair of contemptors presented too us this week by Rage of Khone. Inspiring stuff from all three guys. Its just a shame all of your traitorous warriors are essentially dead tongue.png

Favoured of Ferrus – Mind of Metal

At this early stage of the inter-clan battle, Mind of Metal is way out in front, crushing all opposition with 20 points worth of completed minatures. Can anyone stop him?

There, I did my job properly! Hope you keep enjoying the challenge!

Kor’Vesh

PS - Thanks Reyner and Stru! It should be an interesting week....

Kurama - I haven't scored your dreads yet, as I guess they are still waiting for guns... let me know if things are otherwise and I'll discount your score appropriately! Great job though, and thanks for showing off your excellent finished Sicaran!

@Kor'Vesh....another excellent write up...really adds flavour to the monthly challenge :-) again thank you for your kind words...wish you the best with your interview. ..is the interview In Italy lol...thanks again for taking the time to do the write ups!

@strumanchu...haha dont tempt me with painting fists...im just about mentally hanging in with the iron warriors. ..and credit where it is due, your fists rock!

Run out of likes already..but just wanted to say everyone has put in stunning contributions so far...thanks for the eye candy and look forward to more w.i.p's and completions

Hey you forgot something, I also pledged a Preavian, navigator and 2 castellax...

Hey AO. It is there, your second pledge appears under your first, preceeded by AND. I just forgot to indent the line with your vow on though, so it wasn't obvious! Apologies. Thanks for raising it though... its very easy to go wrong on this!

Chaplain Mortis - glad you like it. Truth is, I got quite excited about it after recording all the pledges this morning so I thought I could make time to do a proper write-up. The interview is, thankfully, not in Italy. That is just for relaxation.

Thanks Kor'Vesh, I've ordered the arms whether or not I get them though is an entirely different story.

I'll finish the base for dred 2 by Monday.

Also have a game this Monday coming up Death guard vs Ultras World Eater alliance.

So pumped

Need to do the topknots, could do with a bit of tidying too.

And then I took a group shot..:

And realised how much lighter the new ones are -.-

Operational readiness counter set +96 (Terran standard) for commencement of joint operations, recon elements positioned, fire support elements moving to concealed overwatch positions, support assets assembling in TAA 13, main body of counter strike force making final preparations.

Sync all chronometers on my mark....

3.....

2......

1........

Operations brief to commence in 90 hours.

Remember Istvaan, and for the glory of terra.

(Enough cryptic hinting for now ;) )

The two terminators I didn't have photos of the other day.

gallery_80005_10378_22985.jpg

The last two terminators of my batch of 8.

gallery_80005_10378_35238.jpg

Means I now have 8 support marines, a terminator character, 3 thallax, 2 castellax, a veteran and a rhino to do fully. My final seeker should be done this evening, just rivets and washes to do.

I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like I spend half my time just painting rivets on some of these models.

Edit: Have finished the last of the seekers.

Now just need to decide what to paint next.
