Dealing with Super Heavies

Nah, the latest codex kinda screwed us in that regard. You could maybe try a Stormraven? I mean, they're pretty good and I usually run mine with anti-tank weapons since they're pretty hard to come by in the rest of the list. But the answer to this question is the same as every other question. Apply Dreadknights to the problem. This kills the problem.

Obviously dreadknights! But... Imperial knights have D weapons, so you'll be taking d3 wounds everytime you're wounded in combat, or if your opponent rolls a 6 to wound, you take 6+d6 automatic wounds with no saves of any kind allowed... So throw 3 at it haha

Yeah if you send your DK to kill a Knight-Titan, it's a trade (you'll fail an invul against their reaper for sure). However, your 200pt or so DK killing a 375pt Super-Heavy walker is a very good trade. With S10 you'll almost certainly take it out though.

Well, I'd recommend massed Psycannon, then HammerDKs, rather than going straight for the DK option, but I guess that goes without saying. And yes, it is SHV hunting that I even bother to field my Stormraven, which is Las/Melta armed (Las/Missile for Monster Hunting).

However, most times I go for the Nuke option, and just throw Vortex at them, since I fish for Vortex every time.

I threw Vortex at a Baneblade, hit it and did 2 HP of damage, next turn he turns all guns on my Librarian. No more Vortex to cast.

See, I would have dumped all my Psycannon fire into its rear AV, popped a D-plate on it, then charged in with MC Hammer playing "Hammer Time". Sure, it might survive, but if so, that Baneblade will be dead in one more turn, and my Libby would live on to cast again ... and again. Why, you may ask?

Because I would have a plan that either ignored the Baneblade to play the mission, or crippled the Baneblade because that was the better choice. I would not just go at it unprotected (was your Libby not in a bubble-wrap of TDA+Draigo?), not relied on just the Vortex (did you not take enough Psycannons?), and my NDK would have come in on jump rather than Shunt (for the Charge). Most likely, I would also have brought a Knight Errant, because I either knew another Superheavy would be in play, or its a tournament (so why wouldn't I have my own SHV?).

Yes, it's easier to point out how to do things in a vacuum, yet even then it is still upon each of us to think strategically, move tactically, and be prepared for the win.

The Libby was in a unit of Termies but got shot to shreds by the baneblade the turn after casting vortex, some terrible dice rolling on my part. hardest part i guess was not knowing beforehand he was bringing a baneblade so not adjusting my list accordingly.

Understandable. I'm always expecting the worst match up, always expecting to see Superheavies, Flyers, massed AP2, etc.. So, I plan to use terrain, to use Rites, to abuse the Psychic phase, and go all in if that's the better solution. Your codex is a toolbox, your army is your tool belt, what you do with those tools is fix the problem in front of you.

Baneblades are tough. 12 HPs means you have no guarantees with anything of taking one down. The usual method of surround and shoot it on multiple fronts then assault with dreadknights is still the best method. Easier said then done if hes bubble wrapping though. Ranged answers is limited to whats been mentioned: psycannons, ravens, vortex. Add combi meltas to that. A well placed melta works wonders.

The good news is its expensive. You can set about wrecking the rest of his army and hide in assault as much as possible to prevent him from profiting much from its firepower. I have a buddy that runs one and its pretty good but not broken IMO,but always solid. Of course you can always shoot for invisibility on multiple units as well to deny him targets.

Hmm lastly I haven't used this but the option exists to roll on the escalation WL traits if your opponent brings a super heavy. Should help to mitigate its power.
