Sicaran VS Venator knowing you could get spartan in the face

Ok, I know that most people think that the sicaran is better than the venator, and I agree with that. However, knowing that there's a high possibility that the opponent brings a spartan on the table, and having enough points to spend either on 2 sicarans or on a sicaran and a sicaran venator, would you still stick to 2 sicarans? I ask this because once the spartan is down, the sicaran can handle the other vehicles on board better than the venator, but would you use a heavy support slot and 190 points to buy a venator anyway in order to basically give hard time only to the spartan? I'm building my 2500 pt. list and I really don't know what should I do :S

Do you have meltabombs in abundance?

Mmm nope, but I have a lot of lasers: this is the list

Rite of war: Covenant of fire

Spartan + Quad lascannons + Twin-linked heavy flamer + ceramite + flare + multi-melta + 360
5 Firedrakes + 5 thunder hammer + 5 shields  350
Praetor terminator cataphractii + master-crafted thunder hammer  + dragonscale shield + mantle + digital laser 200
Primus medicae + terminator cataphractii + power weapon 110

Rhino 35
10 support squad + melta bombs 180

19 tacticals + melta bombs 245
Apothecary 45

19 tacticals + melta bombs 245
Apothecary 45

2 sicarian + lasers 350

Medusa 155

Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought + 2 twin-linked laser 185

Also, I don't think melta is the best option against a spartan, since it gets the ceramite :S

Yeah your fine, take 2 Sicarans! Meltabombs being armourbane and not melta so thats cool. More las than you can shake a stick at, soo yeah don't worry about his spartan.

Oh I didn't know about that armourbane thing on the meltabombs, thanks :)

If you are worried about enemy Spartans, a squad of five Chainfist Terminators in a Dreadclaw will massacre one when they get into combat by Turn 2. Declare that the vehicle is Zooming when you arrive by Deep Strike to avoid any counter charges from the guys inside the Spartan. I'd probably make them Cataphractii too so they are more resilient to counter attacks.

Yeah I thought about that too, but with the covenant of fire rite of war I think I can't take any unit with the deep strike rule unfortunately :(

I wouldn't rely on meltabombs to open up a Spartan unless it's a dedicated CC unit or a throwaway one, because whatever is inside will charge you. And whatever is inside a Spartan is going to be nasty.

If I knew I was facing a Spartan I would take two Venators if I had them, don't give them sponsons its main weapon is ordnance. Deploy them on opposite sides to ensure side armor shots, IE not at a flare shield.

It always comes down in Hover, last sentence of their Drop Pod Assault rule.

option c) 5 landspeeders with graviton guns.

If you could deepstrike with Covenant of Fire that would work. Otherwise they have a good chance at getting shot off.

Well, two venators seems a little excessive IMHO... I'd say one is good, but two I don't know... I just have the feeling that once the spartan is down, a sicaran could do better against other vehicles.. Anyway, I just found out that my list is illegal XD Covenant of fire doesn't allow more heavy supports than troops, so I need to change something. However this isn't the appropriate place to discuss about lists, so if you want to help me out on this matter you'll find me here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304056-2500-salamander-not-a-crazy-list-like-the-previous-one-xd/
