      XIX: Raven Guard

So the idea is Maun is deployed with a unit of Rapiers near the center, the other Rapier on a flank to help bypass Flare and Ion shields. The Forge Lords, Apoths, and Tacs go inside the Darkwings. They deepstrike using Mauns Nightfall Vox so they don't scatter within 18" of him and they gain Counter Attack for a turn. The FL grants them defensive grenades/stealth, Apoth for FnP for shooting survivability. Then should the Tacs be charged they will have +1A/FnP and the charging unit won't get any charge bonuses and be at -1T.

If transports/blobs need to be whittled down the gunships can help with that while they stay inside. Or if facing a more defensive list the Darkwings can Outflank deep behind enemy lines where the Rapiers and Raptors can support them. The entire list can support any element just about anywhere on the board.

The basic Tacs and Mor Deythan hang back for objectives.

The two Rapier batteries can kill a Deredeo each, or at the very least maim it.

Mauns WL Trait helps make sure all the gunships come in turn two and unload.

A mix of 24 S8 Sunder shots at 60" or 24 S5 blasts with -1 to pinning check

4 TL S9 AP2 shots from the Darkwings

15 TL S6 AP3, 8 S6 sunder and two sets of 4 TL S7 shots from the Raptors, all capable of engaging different targets.

You're going to have a hell of a time taking on AV14 or Av13 spam...and while the THUDD guns are nice, you can only fire at two units total.

If you have bad rolls for reserves, you might also be up crap creek. However, this many flyers can over saturate your enemy's AA. Do remember that the darkwings will be vulnerable when they drop due to being in hover mode. As long as you kill any Deredeos or Mortis dreads, you will be fine.

The list seems really competitive and "good" but you'll have to see what the local meta is like. If someone brings a Fellblade, you can kiss your butt goodbye with the two pie plates that'll inevitably take out your important rapier battery/ Maun. You'd be even worse off against a Typhon that will just ignore cover.

Don't deploy too aggressively with the rapiers and 1st turn guys or you might find them in assault in your opponent's first turn.

Other than that, it's a really good list :)

Well Maun gives me re-roll son flyer reserves so I'm not too worried about that.

The list is more to explore the idea of a unit that has Counter Attack, defensive and rad grenades. Between the buffs/debuffs from that and overwatch it punishes enemy units for charging mine. Then dial the rest of the list up to 11.

Strategic combat interdiction is a specialty of the XIX and I wanted to make a list for that specifically; Hard hitting ambush units and mobile strike forces.

I feel I have enough for a fair amount of AV13, but you're right; AV14 will be a big problem.

After some thinking here's a newer version:

Battle Servitor Control, Ground-tracking Auguries, 2x Two Kraken penetrator heavy missiles

  • Heavy Support
    • Legion Fire Raptor Gunship

      Reaper Autocannon battery

The Tac blob, along with the Forge Lord, Apoth, and Navigator will deploy up close and personal to take advantage of their weight of numbers. Stealth, Navs -1 to enemy BS, FnP, Counter Attack, Defensive Grenades, and Rad Grenades will see them some deadly close-range action. Nanyte Blaster is to supplement their fire-power. I'm debating the Void Shield Harness instead for even more survivability.

Lightning does what it does, hiding in the shadow of the Darkwing if need be.

I experimented with Tac Support squads armed with volkite chargers to go in the second Darkwing to take advantage of the assault ramp, but Mor Deythan exist. For a few more points they can do a lot more damage that a support squad.

This version also lets me take the Decapitation Strike RoW since it only has one Consul and Heavy Support.

Typhons will always be a problem for any list that isn't mechanized with Flare Shield spam. In such case I face one I'll deploy the Rapiers as far away as possible and go from there.

Good shizz.

The only other option I could recommend (though your list is very good) would be to take a praevian.

Slap him in a 2 Castellax squad with either MMs or darkfire lances. Infiltrate them and have them take the brunt of the shooting. They can take care of any of your AT issues and be a general pain. Hell, you could even play dirty and throw on a warp shunt field on him or a void harness for extra troll. Or take a boarding shield for the defensive grenades on Castellax.

Stealth, infravisor and boarding shield castellax that can infiltrate and fleet? Yes please! This unit solves the ravens "I've got a few infiltrating units that are quite weak while I wait for my reserves to show up" problem.

I do worry that with the forge lord and apothecary its a lot of points to just buff a ten man squad, as many as the squad itself and so is there not an opportunity to do something similar but with better units? Or cheap out and leave them as scoring unit tokens in their flyers?

Is there any particular reason to pick the night wing over the storm eagle in the fast attack slots? I really like stealth and outflank, but in your list would the multi melta on the nose and better missiles be more valuable? I'm not sure as outflank on flyers is great but I think its worth considering.

All the rapiers is brutal and I like flyer saturation, at this points level in my meta nobody is prepared for so much air power!

Like I said before, this list is to explore the synergy of all these buffs/debuffs. I think at bigger points, 3k+, would be better suited with bigger squads of tac marines. At these points probably one unit is best, like my second list. Terminators might not be a bad idea for better shooting when disembarking, but 16 tac marines are tough in their own right.

I like the Darkwing because any increase in defense for things inside a flyer is gold. Anything to help prevent a fatal crash and burn. Thats just personal taste. Regular eagles do offer more firepower.

I love me some Praevian/Castellax action, believe me. This list is more for theoryhammer. My final collection will probably only have one battery of Rapiers and will definitely have a Praevian unit ha.
