Toying around with starting a heresy army. Thoughts on this? Not sure it would really do well as its more of a list created with models I like first and tabletop ability second

HQ

praetor, cataphtactii armour, paragon blade, Volkite charger

162

Troops

10 assault marines, 2xpower weapon, power weapon on sergeant

280

9 cataphtactii terminators, volkite chargers

Spartan Assault tank, armoured ceramite, flare shields

698

Heavy Support

2xSicarian, heavy bolters, ceramite

350

Lord of war

Stormblade, space marine crew, ceramite

1985

Thoughts on this? Its more of a long term project. Leaning towards ultras but also tempted by blood angels. Not entirely sure yet

Yeah I just like the mark iii assault marine models more than anything. Although I'm concerned that being the only infantry on the table they won't last long since anything that can't hurt the tanks will focus on them. Just trying to think out plans so I have a rough idea what to pick up

If you mixed in the basic Tactical MkIII marines with the Assault MkIII marines, you can have a Tactical Squad with extra CCW's.

What is better for your PotL list is that the Legion Veteran Tactical Squad come with Bolter, Bolt Pistol and Chainsword / Combat Blade as standard.  This means that as long as you scatter a few bolters on the bases (or strapped to them, or give one to the odd model in hand), you'll be fine with the MkIII assault squad as models to use.

Ah I must have misread the PotL stuff then as I thought it just added these as troop choices and didn't realise they had to be taken. Hmmmm I'll maybe have to have a rethink to sort out points etc.

With regards to veteran tactical squads that's certainly an idea I'll have to look into although i do love those jump packs. My other idea for a fun to collect list was armoured spearhead and they still don't fit into that list either.

As for legion rules it's still something I'm working on tying down but at the moment I'm thinking ultras although I'll wait until their book is out since it's next I believe or maybe something like blood Angels. Emperors Children were long my favorite but I want to do a loyalist force especially as I had emperors children in 40k for awhile. So I'm strongly inclined to ultras (tied with salamanders for my favorite space marines and I've just recently sold off my salamander 40k army so I don't fancy them again) but down the line if I want to use assault marines I would imagine blood Angels will be better for that
