Not so sure about the color selection on this one.  The purple coils on a red gun, for instance.  I think the blue-green you used for wiring and gubs on the bolter before may have been better.  That, and the Novamarine shoulder's blue is unusually pastel.  I dunno if that's right or wrong, because if you Google Novamarines you get pics ranging from a deep azure to a light gray-blue.  But that borders on lavender.

I think you missed his eyes, too?

Anyway, with my nitpickery complete, the usual compliments are due.  Incredible black, solid silver, crisp and clean all around, etc.  You already know what you're doing right.

It's interesting you say that because to my eyes the red and the violet go really well together, but I thought that about some power cables I did for a multimelta (with a redder purple) and Augustus said it looked a bit off. Maybe my brain is wired to see red+purple as good where others see a clash? I wanted to use a colour for grav weaponry that I haven't already appropriated; I've got green for plasma and blue for lascannons -plus red for gun casings - which really only left purple or yellow and I thought the latter really wouldn't work (plus I have limited experience painting yellow). As for the blue I was trying to emulate the artwork from the Imperial Armour Badab War books, which is definitely more pastel blue than the deep, rich, Imperial blues google will give you; I've probably missed the mark a bit on that score. Yeah, I did forget the eye lenses; just a case of me forgetting which black armoured marines i was painting I guess, in the same way that one or two of my Deathwatch have their left arm black rather than silver. I could probably get at the right one, but with everything glued in place the left would be near impossible to fix, so I'll just leave it be and try to remember next time! Thanks for the feedback, though, the nit-pickery is useful and when you give a compliment I know it's been earned

I'm glad I found this thread. I have thought about a Deathwatch kill team for a while, and I think I will do it for the ETL. This has lots of inspiration for me, not to mention the painting and conversions are superb!

Go for it, man, I've found it to be an incredibly satisfying an surprisingly creative side project. Glad you enjoy my efforts and flattered that you'd consider them as inspiration material.

Red and purple don't clash, and that's sort of the problem.  Contrast would do you more good with something like that.  Green, blue, white...actually, yellow would probably work, or a bright orange.  Always good to learn a new skill ;)

Sometimes, in the heat of battle, there's no time to reload, you just have to keep shooting:

Firepower-

Exactly! To be fair if you look at size of the rounds in the ammo drum it looks like you might actually need to get into just such a stance, even as an astartes (though I confess to knowing next to nothing about munitions and combat so I could be talking out of my arse).

Cheers. How so? I positioned it so it'd be convenient for the left hand to grab, do you think it'd get int the way of the right arm?

Asamodai - Thank you very much and you know what? No one has said that before, but it makes a lot of sense. I read a ton of marvel comics between 15 and 20 as well as a whole bunch of indies and horrors. Still read some X-men stuff every now and then, but in those super-hero type books I really favoured the very clean, clear artists over the deliberately scruffy ones. Definitely an influence now that I think about it some.

GrandMagnus - Cheers. Yeah, I try to make sure that all my Deathwatch have at leats some sort of targetting augmentation either on their weapon or their helmet, they're spec. ops marines after all.

Reckoning - Thanks, man. Steal away. It's from the Vengeance Landspeeder kit if that helps any (+ Inquisition Brass etch, of course)

The Emperor's Wrath, Quad-Heavy Bolter Rapier preserved from the days of the Great Crusade. It's provenance prior to being awarded to the Segementum Pacificus Watch Station is unknown. For the last two centuries, an unprecedented period of service, Fists Examplar veteran Niels Goosen has tended to the relic machine lovingly, ensuring that it is as ready for war now as  in the days when Primarchs led their chapters to battle and operates it with consummate skill.

To differentiate the black on the chapter pad from the rest of the model I used Reaper Master Series Dark Elf Skin Shadow to give it a purple tint . Forgot to do his left arm silver, but, I'm npt fussed about that. There's so uch silver elsewhere , not least the bionic leg on the same side of the body, that I think more would be detrimental to the whole model. Pretty fun model overall, if a little frustrating due to the amount of resin involved and how much that impedes edge highlighting; the only plastic parts are 3 of the purity seals, his belt accessories and left arm. I had initially resolved to use an earlier armour mark for Niels, but in the end I liked the idea of a veteran operator to go with the relic war machine, though I dislike the stock MK III rapier crew.

Here with the Hawk Lord spotter:

Thousand Eyes - thank you, brother. To think it started off as a couple of random models...

SickSix - cheers. Preaching to the choir about Anvil stuff, especially the not-Storm Bolters. Cylindrical Drum mags for the win. Nowhere near enough Silver Skulls around and with the amount of marine stuff with skulls on it, super easy to make a characterful one.

Your painting is exceptionally clean. It's almost like they're comic book heroes or something. Very impressive.

Yes, precisely!

Loving your work. There are many styles that look good to me, and yours is one of them. What colors did you use to highlight the black armor?

Brother-Captain Arkhan - Thank you, will do my best, the new release has re-ignited some fire!

Venomlust - thank you very much, as I said to Asamodai, it hadn't really occurred to me before he mentioned it, but it's a great comparison that makesa lot of sense given that I do enjoy comis (when I can afford them...). The black is highighted with Vallejo Model Colour German Grey.

Midnight Runner - Cheers, man. High praise indeed! There's something about four heavy bolter barrels, isn't there?

Burias - cheers. You may well be able to, fella. Look at my WIP thread and see where I started versus now. It's all just practice.

Brother Stobz - thank you, brother. Appreciate it.

Robbie - thanks for your kind words and for resurrecting the thread, reminding me to respond to all those who took the time to leave comments. I hop around a bit with the pouches. Some of the earlier ones were based on Vallejo Charred Brown or Vallejo Hull Red (the counts as Kantor also has his based on Hull Red) The ones on the Rapier crew are Reaper Woodstain Brown with a touch of black and then a touch of something bone coloured (I tend to use Reaper Terran Khaki) to make a highlight.

New Recruit - Raptor

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828228_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828229_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828231_sm-.JPGhttp://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/9/20/828230_sm-.JPG

No doubt we'll be seeing lots of these guys after the Deathwatch Veterans release, but hopefully mine stands out a little as it's got the correct insignia rather than the one on the pad in that kit (thank you 3rd party). As befits a marine from a Chapter of legendary marksmen he has a Stalker Bolter (Anvil Industry's  'Negotiator' Rifle) and plenty of appropriate gear on his person: 2 alternate ammo clips, a range of individual bullets with unique, exotic poisons (zoom in on the second pic a bit), a bipod, additional visual tracker on his pack and punch dagger (seems very much like the sort of thing a Raptor would have). With his pose I wanted him to look like he'd just made a shot (note the shell casing on the floor) and is scanning for a new target.
