Questions about battle mats

Recommended Posts

Hi to everyone! I'm planning to make a battle mat myself instead of buying one (60 euros is too much for me to spend in a battle mat) and I found this tutorial http://ufozerozero.blogspot.it/2014/12/miniature-wargaming-battle-mat-project.html. When he says "  aforementioned substrate of some kind" I find myself wandering what should I buy... I did a quick search online and I really can't decide. The cheaper option I found is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/3MM-MATT-PVC-FOAM-board-1-piece-297-x-210-A4-/360540464311?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item53f1e2e4b7

Do you think it would work?

I wouldn't think you could roll up foam board, usually not that flexible.  I figured you would need something more latex or vinyl

ah I was thinking of a permanent mat, I see what this is now. does the silicone stick to vinyl? I don't know...otherwise basically any time of thin material that it wont seep through before it dries should work. roll plastic, tarp, vinyl mat etc.

I could have found something cheaper and even easier to do

In the comments he says "We've been using the mats for about a month now. Playing Malifaux on Fridays and for shooting videos and playing games here and there. They've been rolled, folded, thrown around, stretched, terrain scraping on it... etc. So far, they are all intects and no chipping or anything. It's been really holding up to abuse."
