Contemptor Loadouts

Recommended Posts

Is the general consensus on the Heavy Conversion Beamer that it's just terrible?  I like the idea of my Iron Hands contemptor rocking two of them but the range increments and Firing Calibration on the beamer means I'll rarely see the best results.  Have any of you run a contemptor in this configuration?  Or would a dual lascannon setup be better?

Also, for my Iron Warriors contemptor I'm thinking about DCCW w/ Graviton Guns.  This seems really effective and quite fluffy to have a dread storming a breach and murdering face.

So with that said I'm just curious about everyone's general experience with different load outs.

Thanks in advance!

I want to say that the conversion beamer is only permitted on one arm, so you have to take a different weapon too, but I dont have my books with me...

Ultimately it runs down to how it will be played. The super assault cannon is beastly if you place him centrally and push him towards the enemy. If he will be back field running at/aa then the dual laz will pay off.

I have two conversion beamers sitting in their blisters because I was an idiot, and ordered without checking. My compromise was dual LC. Sure, there's nothing too cool about the good ol' Lascannon, but it makes a mortis a pretty capable heavy weapons platform. I liked the idea of a contemptor swatting things out of the sky with precision instead of sheer weight of fire and rends like you get with the heresy AC. Plus better range can help.

Are melee contemptor a good at all? Also is there a place for the Mortis with the deredo out? The night lords contemptor looks so good that I want to try them out but I don't know any good weapons load outs for them.

Yes they are. They have Fleet, An Invulnerable Save, AV13 and Graviton Gun hand Options (not exclusive to them, mind you) and can take carapace Missile Launcher to boot.

I like Dreadnoughts with a Pair of DCCW's and dual Graviton Guns. Personally i don't think that changes to Contemptor are worth their 50pts (+1 AV and Atomantic Shielding) extra, especially when their ultimate end result will still being ripped apart by haywire, melta or Armourbane.

I'd rather put those points into a Dreadnought Drop Pod.

I hate the Dreadnought chassis and love the Contemptor chassis. That's worth 50pts to me!

Keep in mind too that both the stumpy dreads and contemptors are points priced for a system where "ATSKnF" doesn't exist yet and fearless is hella rare. They pay for the opportunity to sweep big units.

Thank you for all the replies!  I think I'll avoid the conversion beamer like many of you.  It's visually very appealing (and fluffy for the Xth) but it seems so wonky to use.  Based on all your feedback I'll probably go in one of three loads; Dual Lascannons or dual DCCW.  Although, I'm not against the Plasma/DCCW either but this is a combo that I feel so many of my dreads in 40k have taken.

correct me if I'm wrong but with so many big blobs of troops running amuck I would have thought that plasma cannons would be pretty ace but I think I'm the only heresy collector in a hundred mile radius so I don't really know

I rock a plasma cannon and a DCCW:

(Shameless plugging)

It works really well and the plasma cannon does fantastic against any valuable 2+ save units. You can also fish for a penetrate on side armor 12 if needs demand it. I really like the fist as you can punch valuable tanks and ROFLstomp important units like Siggy/templars when they have little to no cc AT.

There are cheaper and more powerful Plasma Cannons around than a Contemptor, though.

Compare Contemptor with Plasma Cannon = 185

Legion Dreadnought with double CCW, Legion Predator with Executioner Plasma Destroyer = 235. So, for another 50pts, you get 2 more plasma shots, and another S10 CC attack.

Oh, I think I may have misled people with my prior post.

I meant running a 2 DCCW with the plasma blasters upgrade on the fists rather than the twin-linked bolters, not a plasma cannon.

4 (2 per fist) Plasma Shots and 1 extra S10 Attack for ~220 points with Av13 Front, Fleet and 5/6++ Decent enough if you have the points. Better option, imo, if facing more 2+ saves than things that would need to get Grav'd / Haywired.

2 Heavy Flamers if your facing Hordes/Blobs.

I like the contemptor! Has a very knight-sequel feel to it. Is that a raven guard contemptor as a base?

Also with the deredo is their a place for the Mortis? Don't know if it's cheaper or not. Maybe as close fire support?

Kheres and chainfist for me. Blaster if I have the points. My next one is going to be dual claws and blasters.

That's what my SoH one will be rocking, the claws and blasters. Oh, and a Missile Launchler laugh.png

I'm going to make Ancient Krahzen, a former Moritat, from page 145 of book 3. Because he is awesome. If he ever got rules he should have chainfire.
