So I have been on again/off again in this hobby for a long time. I've been following this forum (this sub forum in particular) more and more lately and from all the eye candy you all have given me I decided to get back at it again. I traded off my GK, BT stuff and grabbed more wolves. All assembled it will be in the area of 6k ... ish. Irrelelvant, however... Lets just see how much I can get painted!

Here is a link to what will be my WIP thread for the upcoming battle. Started off with Murderfang. I fully intend to update as often as possible. Your feedback is what I'm in the hobby for, so please don't hold back.

Space Wolf WiP

Here is a link to what I got up to in my last go at this.

Contemptor & Njal!

My last name is Dane...I feel a natural draw towards the Wolves heh. And as far as 'easy to play' that may well be, I have no idea as I've not played in the last 10 years or so. Just a hobby guy now though I may try and get some games of kill team in at the local store once I've enough painted.

Anyways, small update over in the WiP thread I could use some opinions on.

Space Wolf WiP

Looks like you and I are walking back in through the door at the same time, brother.... Funny how we just cannot stay away.....First mug is on me....

Loved your previous work and look forward to seeing more of the new. That Murderfang looks epic!

Sitting down trying to figure out how much my list has changed/will change and enjoying the look of many of the new kits..... and getting inspired to do things with them. Just kinda bummed that they left wulfen out this time... unsure.png Don't know what I'm gonna do with the ones I customized before....

Anyhow, glad you are back and can't wait to see more! To the Wolftime!

Thanks BtW!. Its good to be back... and good to see you back also! The hospitality around here is always a nice welcome. Ive been putting a splash or two of paint on murderfang tonight and I got to thinking... with the amount of times I have started up the hobby and then vanished into the warp for a few years at a time... I should really paint my wolves as 13th co heh.

Now that is one hell of an idea, LoL!!!

It would look cool. NIce dark grey scheme with a few spot colours thrown in.

I am doing a bunch of stuff in dark grey, so I can use it as elites and relics for 40K (rare and revered icons of the past bestowed on the veterans) or as a stand-alone 30K army :)

How is Murderfang coming along?

Very slowly. Work has been stupid lately. 4 16 hour shifts and 2 12's in the last 7 days. I only work an 8 today though and I am off for the next two days so fully intending to make solid progress.

As for 13th company, they are the reason I chose dark grey to begin with. But then I realized it didn't look like they used pack markings (which I like to much to give up), and that some of the units I intend to do up dont fit in with them.

You could still use pack markings I am sure, and which units were you thinking of for 13th company?

Considering there is no official 13th company codex... unless you go with the fandex that has been written.

I figured out Why Abaddon's been so mad and launched his latest Black Crusade.

Someone stole his top-knot!!  see Codex eye of terror cover for proof!!

I am under the assumption that the fluff states (on the wiki) no blood claws, no promotion to wolf guard, no new armored vehicles. Also in order to model properly I would want some older heresy armor and even some chaos pieces to mix in with regular stuff. I just sold all my chaos stuff and two sets of fw heresy armors lol. Ultimately....my army so I can do and say as I please with it... however I like to stay solidly within established fluff. Im OCD like that.

Yes there is no promotion, as each warrior has spent 10,000 years fighting they are all elite warriors equal to a wolf guard.

With that being the case I would use  Champions of the Fang list and make an all wolf guard army, but use them as the various elements, wolf guard on bkes, wolf guard as storm claws etc, I remember the 13tth's rune priests had a power called the "gate".

It wa their key to mobility, something I think they would lack badly nowadays.

Use several wulfen on a 60mm base or whatever the TWC use and have them use TWC rules, 1 packof say 3 wulfen equals 1 twc for example. Gives you a use for the wulfen models, now that there is no MotW anymore.

As for chaotic bits... Well why not take a leaf from Maverik. His came back from the Eye, gained Logans respect in a trial of arms and were given permission to restock, re-arm and go back out to kick butt.

Just thoughts.

Hmm...what to do with my 10 TWC and TWC ironpriest and lords heh. I will figure something out. Its between Grimnar and 13th. Either way I am going to do dark grey and either of those companies has logos on black pads so I will see where the brush takes me.
  • 2 weeks later...

Just a small update on Murderfang here. The sad truth is I dont think I will have time to finish him before the challenge deadline. It will be close but I work 16 hours a day for the next 3 days...so...yeah.

I did have time, but I have severe hobby add and started work on other things. A 10 man GH pack, 5 man tdawg pack, IP on TWC, WL on TWC, a mkiib land raider crusader....must stay focused! Atleast I have not ordered anything non-space wolf! Thats a positive step for me to atleast stay within the bounds of one army.

Well that is where I'm at. Sorry the pics aren't the best, done quickly as I need to get to sleep. Lots of areas just base coated and in need of highlighting. The armor highlights I think are finished but I do fully intend to battle damage him up. I've been trying to find a place or a reason to do a spot of color somewhere, like a pack marking... but I think that would kind of go against his fluff? Any ideas or suggestions on how to liven him up a touch?

Also, my back log of stuff is huge. I'd really appreciate hearing what people might like to see me tackle next. You name it, if its space wolves I've got it or intend to convert it! Motivate me!

You could go a solid color (yellow?) on one of the legs armor plates. Maybe add a decal in the open blank spot on left torso. See how he looks after that and sprinkle with wolf tail talismans (couple hanging from the sarcophagus?) and/or skulls.

Motivation... lets see that IP on a TW!

Well I made a decision and named my Great Company. I give you Hrothgar Bloodmoon's Great Company! Wolf Lord model soon to reveal himself =)

I was inspired last night because there was a "blood moon" (lunar eclipse) very visible where I am. The blood moon was part of Viking mythology and when it happened they believed Hati had caught up to the moon and was eating it so everyone would make as much noise as they could to scare him off... anyways... Murderfang completed. Not happy with some of it. I think the blood was overdone but being Murderfang... well I can't say it "works" but I can get away with it atleast. Also, I made 3 attempts at battle damage... its just not in my book of tricks yet. I had to repaint the armor plate 3 times lol.

Comments/Criticism most welcome...

Looks great love the dark grey and the use of subtle spot colours around the model yo liven it up. Could you give a tutorial for the dark grey, it's the perfect shade.

Thanks Wolfface! The grey is just eshin grey. For murderfang I tried my hand at some wet blending and mixed 3 shades. 50-50 black and eshin, : 50-50 white and eshin and one plain eshin with a couple.drops of blending medium in each one. It showed up well in some spots and not so much in others. Used some dawnstone edging here and there. The contemptor was plain eshin with no blending attempt. Just some badab in the shady areas.
