Dantay VI
I had thought about that, but the very top highlight is a ushabti bone/ white scar mix. I guess bone and fur require a different painting process compared to armour. I am going to try something a bit out of left field..... 1 bone-1 whitescar-10 water and try a bone glaze. Basically to use it to create a uniform lightening up of the skull, the opposite to shade It is either going to be a success and I am going to look like a genius or it will be horrific and I'll look like a total Bampot...... I wonder if it would work for painting tattoo's as well. wish me luck Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3981269 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Made some progress on this guy. He's still very much WiP, as I cannot help but take too much time fiddling around details and blending and highlighting when ever possible... Curse?? Gift?? Yeah, something like that. http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/40K%20009.jpg End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3981508 Share on other sites
Yoyo ninja
Or click "open image in new tab", copy the url, then past it between (img) and (/img) replacing the )('s with ][. Like so: This is what I have done maddog. Not sure what wrong with it, I'll just have try the other way. Gemini
Well he's done. I'll never do most of the quality of things I see on this site. Bottom line, I'm too old and I like playing more than the hobby side. That having been said at least a 'tabletop' quality painted army to field adds SO MUCH to the game that I can't see playing unpainted models (personal standard). SO without further ado. My wolf lord with Helm of Durfast. He was fun to work on, has a lot of history and it's more freehand work than I've ever done on any of my models. Oh I also upgraded him from 25mm to 32mm, third party, base.... Dantay VI
Looking good there Gemini. Kept it nice & clean, no messy splodges, which is what I am prone to :) Did a good job on the sword with the triangles. PS you are never too old :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3982125 Share on other sites

Dantay VI
Nope, nobody?? Awww!! Sad Puppy :p Did a white wash of the skull with bone and white mix, and I did the fur with a white wash of pure white. Does it look better/ more realistic? rgr_maddog
I can see more clearely that the fur is still attached to the skull, but I don't know that it's better. I realy like the free hand you got going in the cape and the details on the modle, but they seemed obscured by the fur. The huge space of white fur is drawing away from all that other work you've put into the modle I think. Maybe going darker or putting blending a transition to a darker color would help to alleviate that? Dantay VI
Hey RGR_MADDOG! I kinda deliberately wanted the white to stand out from the blacks browns and greys, as I was worried te model would just turn into an earthy coloured blob. However I an see where you are coming from, you think this looks better? I want to keep the white fairly dominant as Gunn is called the winter wolf, he is te oldest of Wolves, one of the few remaining Terrans left in a legion which has changed around him, he is now in his winter years.... He is coming to the end of his thread, so I wanted the white wolf to kinda represent the models oaging. his companion has goe and now he wears his pelt as a reminder of a former more vibrant age... Dantay VI
Looks good, maybe a coat more of Fang, to get an even finish across the armour though? looks a little patchy, definitely on the right track though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3984184 Share on other sites
mercbat
Great thanks to BlodVargarna - painting as a response to challenge really motivates. =) As my weekend suddenly was completely free - I present you Ainar "Angry" Adalson - Jarl of the Sesc TWC Mounted On foot With Jumppack (Sometimes jarl remebers ol' time he was a Blood Claw) And a full set (except TDA) Torso, backpack, both arms (right arm - in shoulder and wrist) and weapon set are magnetized. Dantay VI
http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/d5/d5ad4a3a5ee5e81d51396e4ec1a0049d2b7f502977239fbc5095bb6571770b3e.jpg Well, I have managed to finish my challenge on time. It was challenging and fun to work on and paint this model. I learned new techniques and re-learned some old ones. Instead of edge highlighting I tried a bit of layering/ blending in the grey's for the armour and picked out where I wanted highlight and shade. Especially on the legs, which I liked. I learned BCK's tissue cape technique and found I suck at it, but I can adapt it and use paper towels. I learned to be tidier and when I was sloppy I tidied it up, I painted purple for the first time ever. I got frustrated with the face as it is a bit slab sided, plus trying to pick out the cheek scars was a pain. Overall though I had a blast taking time over a model. I know I did a few things wrong and they will be something I will work on in the next model, but for now. It is done!! I present First Captain and former Legion Master, Jarl Gunn of Onn Company... The Winter-Wolf Click on pictures to make them bigger Hope you like, C&C always welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3984764 Share on other sites

rgr_maddog
All done with my Ulrik (basing on a 32mm when I can get them). I figured I'd try the black armor, and think it turned out all right. There was still a few things I had wanted to touch up, but I'm pretty happy with him. I'll post some more pics and info on my wip thread later http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a514/rgrmaddog/image_zpsaiuiijn6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304507-painting-challenge/page/3/#findComment-3991236 Share on other sites
BlodVargarna
Challenge Completed! Olaf the Unlucky is done. I actually might go back sometime in the future and put a decal on his shoulder, but for now he is done! The decal on his leg got there because well it didn't work on his shoulder. I need micro-set / micro sol to make it work and I don't have any so after the shoulder fail, I plopped it on his leg. I like it there! This was a challenge for me! I have not painted a miniature in a long long time. Space wolves are a tough army to paint. I am hoping to come up with a faster way to get these guys done. I won't even say how many hours this took, but it took a lot! Anyways, I'm glad we did the challenge, and I am going to try to keep up with my painting. If I ever want to play these guys on the table-top, I might be ready in a year or two... I also managed to finish a fenrisian wolf as well ,but he is not part of the challenge becasue I worked on him concurrently with Olaf.
