Adra'Melek
I love the idea of the Praevian and battle-automata. Flamer/Melta Castellax for Salamanders and Lightning gun Vorax for Night Lords. But the Praevian rules for Night Lords allow the purchase of Trophies of Judgement. But the battle-automata are monstrous creatures so they already cause fear. What's the point? (Modelling wise you can still give them trophies). Also, am I right in thinking the power blades just give you an extra Attack? (Rend would also allow them to wound T9/10 but do any such exist?) OwlandMoonGuy
There are some redundant/odd mixing of rules for the Pravian's LA(special rules) + retinue. Note that it may make more sense for a legion to take a Cortext Controller to unlock Castallax in some cases. The affect of adding Power Blades is debated. There is the position that power blades, plural, = 2 CCW's + Rending. The question more comes as per whether or not the Castallx already has 2 CCW's. The unit entry mentions Shock chargers, plural, as another example of a rule that affects is CC attacks. But, since there are two attacks in it's stat line perhaps plural is always appropriate. If anyone has any insights that I'm not aware of please chime-in. My thought is that the unit is intended to have 2 CC's, i.e. net 3 attacks in assaults with or without the blades. Regardless, adding Rending allows the Castallx's regular attacks to gain the extra D3 armor pen on the roll of a 6 allowing it to threaten higher AV vehicles, like Contemptors, without using a Smash attack. Adra'Melek
Of course. I forgot about the D3 penetration bonus for rending. I've only played Tyranids at the minute so it didn't come up. ThatOneMarshal
Does the talent for murder rule affect the unit a lot? They are monstrous creatures so they are already Str 6 so they are wounding on twos anyways against most things. Only time I can think of it being of use is against other monstrous creatures. Adra'Melek
Pretty much, yeah. Although you can paint them dark blue with Lightning patterns! Edit: the Vorax also have infravisors, so night vision is pointless. But the idea is just too cool for me not to want to do! Hesh Kadesh
I like to think that FW are changing the kind of pointless Trophies of Judgement to just giving Night Lords characters Fear as standard, and then Trophies of Judgement working as the opposite of Legion Vexilla; forcing a reroll on successful morale checks, because then that would really make combat viable outside of the first few turns "gank" style gameplay. But it's unlikely; and more likely to do with FW don't know what they're doing. Adra'Melek
Well they're experimental rules for the Praevian so I feel an e-mail coming on. Edit: I emailed this I was looking at the experimental rules for the Praevian relating to the Night Lord legion. They specifically say that the battle-automata can purchase trophies of judgement for 10 points. However, as monstrous creatures they already cause fear so this appears to be a 10 point redundancy. and got this We have checked with our rules team regarding this one and they have said that as an amendment for a Night Lords Legion Praevian, any Fear tests caused by his accompanying Battle Automata have to be take using the lowest LD value of the unit taking the test.
