So, I've been toying with the idea of changing my RG into an AL force, as the alpha legion have always been my preferred legion when it came to 30K.

Therefore I've decided to write up a quick list. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

+ HQ (130pts) +

Legion Centurion (130pts) [Artificer Armour, Bolter with only Banestrike Rounds, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon, Refractor Field]
Consul [Vigilator]

+ Troops (450pts) +

Legion Tactical Squad (225pts) [9x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Rhino Armoured Carrier [Twin-Linked Bolter]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon]

Legion Tactical Squad (225pts) [9x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Rhino Armoured Carrier [Twin-Linked Bolter]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon]

+ Elites (974pts) +

Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought (180pts) [Two Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons]

Legion Terminator Squad (474pts) [2x Combi-Weapon, Land Raider Phobos, 4x Legion Terminators, Lightning Claw, Plasma Blaster, 3x Power Fist, Terminator Armour with Combi-bolter and Power Weapon]

Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (320pts) [banestrike Bolter Shells, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web, 8x Legion Veteran Space Marines, Legion Vexilla, Melta Bombs, Sniper]
Legion Rhino Armoured Carrier [Twin-Linked Bolter]
Legion Veteran Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Power Weapon]

+ Heavy Support (195pts) +

Legion Sicaran Battle Tank (195pts) [Armoured Ceramite, Lascannons]

The USR would be infiltrate. The vigilator travels with the veteran squad. Hopefully there is enough anti-air and anti-tank with the sicaran, land raider and mortis, along with the melta bombs on the tacs and vets.

Many thanks, James

one thing, you don't need banestrike ammo on sniper vets couse they have rending, ty to sniper usr.

and u can try to free up 40 points and swap mortis for deredeo, or just for mortis with las cannons, couse with Kheres, he don't have infiltrate so while sicarian fast vehicle he will slooooow walk trough the board with 24" range.

If you're going to infiltrate everything I wouldnt have so many troop transports, especially rhinos which will be blown away in seconds.

I would personally look at replacing the Vets with Headhunters since it seems you want them to do the same job.

I'm not fond of a single melta bomb in a squad being classed as Anti-Tank, they are nice to have but only to make up points at the end. I would much rather have given the Sargeant a Power Fist instead.

All in all I think you need more boots on the ground to pull off Infiltrating with Alpha Legion.

Thanks for the comments, they are greatly appreciated!

I have re-worked the list taking into account your suggestions!

+ HQ (140pts) +

Legion Centurion (140pts) [Artificer Armour, Bolter with only Banestrike Rounds, Melta Bombs, Power Dagger, Power Weapon, Refractor Field, Venom Spheres]
Consul [Vigilator]

+ Troops (490pts) +

Legion Tactical Squad (245pts) [14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Dagger, Power Fist]

Legion Tactical Squad (245pts) [14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Dagger, Power Fist]

+ Elites (570pts) +

Apothecarion Detachment (110pts)
Legion Apothecary [Artificer Armour]
Legion Apothecary [Artificer Armour]

Legion Terminator Squad (460pts) [Cataphractii Terminator Armour with Combi-bolter and Power Weapon, Land Raider Phobos, 4x Legion Terminators, Plasma Blaster, 4x Power Fist]

+ Fast Attack (310pts) +

Headhunter Kill Teams (310pts) [8x Headhunter, Heavy Bolter with Suspensor Web and Banestrike ammunition]
Headhunter Prime [Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon]

+ Heavy Support (240pts) +

Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought (240pts) [Aiolos Missile Launcher, Armoured Ceramite]

power dagger on vigilator will not give him +1 couse its special weapon =) and venom spheres on him, i dunno, just +1 HoW.

u can change them for Augury scanners for Apothecaries to protect you from deep strike a bit, or give your terminators Chain fist to threat Spartan. Melta bomb w fists on tac sergeants, you can use just fists, it will be enough in most of situations.

Give your Headhunter Prime a Powerfist

Drop the dagger on the Vigilator

Drop the melta bombs on everyone, infantry are not quick enough or strong enough to catch any armour. You're also relying on 1 melta bomb to pop a tank sufficiently so it doesn't shoot back, this isn't gonna happen.

Give the Apothecaries Augary Scanners and possibly Power Swords.

The Deredeo is an amazing AA platform but will be at the other end of the field compared to the rest of your army, bare that in mind. I have a feeling that it will be picked off by anything that outflanks.

Ok, so I've edited it some more.

Dropped the unneccesary gear such as power daggers and melta bombs etc.

Seeing what you said about the deredeo being alone backfield, I've opted to take two mortis dreads instead.

Heres the new list:

+ HQ (120pts) +

Legion Centurion (120pts) [Artificer Armour, Power Weapon, Refractor Field]
Consul [Vigilator]

+ Troops (470pts) +

Legion Tactical Squad (235pts) [14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Power Fist]

Legion Tactical Squad (235pts) [14x Legion Tactical Space Marines, Legion Vexilla]
Legion Tactical Sergeant [Artificer Armour, Power Fist]

+ Elites (830pts) +

Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought (180pts) [Two Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons]

Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought (185pts) [Two Twin-linked Lascannons]

Legion Terminator Squad (465pts) [Cataphractii Terminator Armour with Combi-bolter and Power Weapon, Chainfist, Land Raider Phobos, 4x Legion Terminators, Plasma Blaster, 3x Power Fist]

+ Fast Attack (330pts) +

Headhunter Kill Teams (330pts) [9x Headhunter, Heavy Bolter with Suspensor Web and Banestrike ammunition]
Headhunter Prime [Artificer Armour, Power Weapon]

Going into 2000 points I would finish the two tacs up to 20 each and add two apothecaries to the list to attach to the tacs. Would you say the best mutable tactics is infiltrate, trying to think of any of the others are worth taking at all for this style of army.

Thoughts? :P

Many thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated as I prefer to buy things toward an army list, instead of buying stuff and trying to make an army list out of them.

James

Vigilator looks good; although I'd perhaps consider a Volkite to make use of his BS5 Sniper with him, being able to pick off enemy weapons. If running Infiltrate, still not entirely sure what role he's there for? That's a lot of points to pay for "Scout".

If he's sitting with the Headhunters; I'd also considering getting them some Combi-Weapons. They're cheap as chips. Sadly, as interesting as a Banestrike Bolter sounds, over 6 turns of firing, that's only 18 shots, and on a good day, 18 hits; but that's only 3 Banestrike hits. While that pays for itself three times over, a pair of Combi-Plasma's with Preferred Enemy net you 4 kills, can realistically hurt terminators/templars etc, while keeping the Banestrike ammunition on the bolter part. Of course, if facing 40K lists/Solar Auxilia reasonably often, a BS5 S5 Preferred Enemy AP4 weapon just minces them.

Try and maybe find the points from some none essential kit into giving your Tac Sergeants a Power Dagger. 4 Power Fist attacks scare the life out of many things.

For your TL'd Lascannon Mortis; can you not count it as a Deredeo? The only thing that the Mortis can hurt better are Flare Shielded Spartans etc. Technically they can Penetrate AV14, but most kills happen from Glances; and you're comparing 2 shots with a 33% chance to 4 shots with a 30% chance of glancing).

A Deredeo can walk forwards. In fact, it's wise to have it do so at least first turn if you go first. On a 4' wide playing area, with two 12" deployment zones, he's sat at 18", maybe 24" (that's Halfway) if he moves up the field a second time which he should really be doing around turn 3. I'm guessing you're playing Infiltrate then. If the enemy has no AA, then you're golden.

If I may offer my advice, I recommend looking at Raven Guard for that style of play, they do it better. Of course, you can't infiltrate your terminators, but Mor Deythan outclass Headhunters as fun as they are.
