Painting Flesh Tearers

Recommended Posts

I will have to test this but I am fairly confidant it is the wash mix that cases the gloss or no gloss effect. I also recommend looking into India inks from a craft store. Cleaper and more shades available but might require some diluting to get the right shade. Ike the black ink is very dark if that makes any sense...

How vigorously do you shake your washes before use? Insufficient shaking can lead to the glossy finish. Sometimes you need to add some matte medium to sort it out.

Here is my Flesh Tearers test model:

Sorry for the bizarre lighting, but it's based with Vallejo Red Brown, then build up with Vallejo Gory Red to Vallejo Model Air Ferrari Red.  I've edge highlighted with Citadel Vermin Brown (?), but I will not be doing that later.  I have switched to a final highlight of VMA Light Red (IIRC).

Blacks are primed black, then base coated VMA Black, and then zenithal highlight with VMA German Grey.  Finished with a drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

for the red I use a grey undercoat- blood red base- wash with deviln mud-wash with asureman blue- highlight 50/50 red gore (whatever its called now) and bleached bone.

the black is just dry brushed lightly with lead belcher.
