Slips
I think I saw an article on Faet or BoLS that had the artist/painter explain how he did this set of Alpha Legion but that was a while ago... I'd assume its Lothern Blue / Baharoth Blue or Skink Blue (or equivalents) with a LOT of Rust Weathering Powder/Pigment and ample amounts of weathering. Its all still an assumption since its been a while since I've read the related article. Brofist
It's a pretty easy color scheme, really, but executed very well. That rusty effect is most likely an oil wash. Under that it's just a mono colored airbrush job. The white was airbrushed on most likely using the hairspray method. Hehe, as above he beat me to it - blame Papa Nurgle. You could also have the excuse that some areas, seams, bolts or even the paint work has 'stuff' in it that causes a reaction to whatever planet surface air you've been subjected to, etc. I'm sure you can make enough excuses in the age of 30k to give reason to paint them looking rough and ready with a bit of rust - even on the ceramic :) Great paintjob from that picture, weathering really makes 30k armies stand out to me as some of the best looking. Brother-Chaplain Kage
You can still do paint chipping, dirt, grime, streaks of all kinds of nasty stuff, but dusting the whole model orange just looks terrible to me. It's one of those things I can't force my brain to switch off and accept.
