Also, does anyone else find it somewhat irritating that the Ultras get a full spectrum of shoulder pads before their book drops, whereas the RG are still waiting for theirs, almost 2 books after their release?

To be fair, the XIX already have some excellent Forgeworld kits, such as their veteran upgrade set and even Korvydae who I think would make an awesome Praetor.

True, but the upgrade pack is only useful of you want to do Mk VI armour which, though iconic for the RG, was only used in very limited numbers pre-Istvaan, leaving your options rather limited if you want to do an earlier force (or just want to use the cool, non-40k armour marks).

As for Korvydae, he's a nice model, npot gonna dispute that. But I would want to use him in a 30k force, as he's wearing Mk VII armour with a distinctly post-Heresy jump pack (which is the real deal breaker), and so would look rather anomalous in the 30k force waering Mks II-IV.

The overarching point being, why are FW so slow to do shoulder pads? I would think they'd be amongst the easiest things to design/produce, and they'd be a great way to show Legions still waiting for their time in the sun (or actual models, in the case of the RG) that they haven't been forgotten.

Well, hopefully, when the Iron Havocs are released, they'll get a full kit (or a kit similar to that standard MK kits, to allow any heavy weapon kits to be used), which IVth Legion players can use to make their infantry look more Iron Warrior specific. Then the torso / head kits can be used  to add a bit of variation, in a similar way to how the majority of Iron Hands gamers seem to use the full MK III Iron Hands kit, with the odd piece from the torso / head upgrade kits.

We already know from Narik that FW can do pretty awesome IW infantry, and there are some sketches from their design studio floating around which show they know the right direction to take the Iron Warriors in.

Fair enough. Given that they were previewed at the recent HH Weekender, there shouldn't be much of a wait for the Raven Guard MKII-VI pads. If anything, the XIX will actually have more variant sets of Legion-specific pads than anyone else.

Oh, I totally agree. it would be nice of FW to release the remaining Legions who do not have pads yet. I suppose they have their reasons, but hopefully the XIII Legion pads sell so well that they decide to release the remaining Legions' pads before their respective book(s).

Man, I'm pretty let down by these uninspired IW releases. It's pretty clear FW doesn't have a unified vision for them. Compared to some other legions these aren't based on any of the old sculpts or art direction.

I'm considering replacing my shoulder pads with Iron Hand symbols and rebranding as 'traitor hands'. Between these models and the rules I'd rather play something better supported.

Guess I'll continue using Death Guard torsos. Funny how all their specific things look better for the Fourth than dedicated Iron Warriors bits (lookin' at you, Contemptor, though ours' not really bad, once painted). As for the heads, the targeter MkII and the MkIVs don't look half bad, but why did they have to go all "iron masks for the iron mask fortress"? These will look better on Night Lords. Really better.

Death Guard torsos and Iron Hands heads it'll be, which given the presence of Xth, XIth, and XIVth forces in my detachment will get some chances to be painted in their original colors.

When I think of Iron Warriors, I think spartan (much like my XIVth), heavily armored, and well geared. Between the Contemptor that was built by the Orks, poorly motifed helms, and now torsos that look more like they belong with the homebrew IInd Legion armies I see pop up on here (due to that star on the chest), it makes me think that FW has even less direction with the army than GW does. I'm sorry, but if I were an Iron Warriors player, I'd be irate. Especially when Imperial Fists have gotten some amazing kits.

Funny, iron warriors getting irate over the fist getting love... Maybe that's what the intention behind this release was 0_o

Ordered the heads, will be using the targeter heads and the mkiv (no way they are mkii) heads for sgts and vexilla bearers...but gonna sell the skull face ones..they look a bit out of place..

Guess like the majority, will be using deathguard and iron hands bitz to make my havocs...

Really contemplating ordering the new mechanicum unit...a couple of units of 8 of them as allies might be interesting
