The warhounds a forgotten company

Thanks to the help of Ozdestro I've come up with enough story and fluff to field a company of loyalist world eaters or warhounds as that's how I plan to model them. I'm still waiting for models to arrive so this might take second preference to my salamanders for now but hopefully not for long

I've decided to have a go at converting my red butchers to better represent warhounds. I'm certainly no sculpting pro but i think it turned out ok and if not i have warhounds transfers on the way to save me lol. hopefully it will look okay when its completely painted.

Cheers Beerhammer, so i've finally got the start of my warhounds army in the shape of a spartan, 20 mk2 tactical marines, 10 mk3 tactical marines, 2 apothecaries, 5 red butchers and a mk3 legion champion. I'm assembling the spartan at the moment and hopefully on my next lot of days off i can get some paint on them for a test run.

Thanks guys, I've started my first Warhounds test subject in the shape of an apothecarey and while i'm pretty happy with the result there's a few things i need to work on. I think i need to highlight the blue better and somehow make the white deeper, also gotta work on those vials.

Hi there, looks good so far. WhT do you base your white with? When I do mine I start with an earthy brown, not too dark, then I lighten it to a bone, then finish it with a White highlight. It gives the white some depth and makes it less primer looking.

If it looks to bone like, just water down some white and highlight it up to get a smooth coat that doesn't look So primery.

For the blue I would just add a dark wash to it to colour in the corners a bit.

@Flint13 - thanks and yeah the the Spartan is a bit of excitement and a little daunting lol.

@Tychii - cheers for the advice I'll give it a go when I have the chance. Originally it was a black primer with white over the top, then nuln oil black wash and another coat of white on the raised areas.

So i can happily say this thread will finally be recieving some love in the motivational form of the ETL IV. My first pledge is a spartan, 5 red butchers and 20 mkiii true grit marines. i have 2 spartans, 40 mkii marines, 5 red butchers and Khârn ordered and on the way as i type this to bolster my force with additional pledges if the painting goes well smile.png

Khârn will be a converted praetor as i plan to make these guys loyalist warhounds back from a far off engagement.

I never liked Crusade armor but I can see the apothecary is accurately painted. The pauldron with the winged skull kind of makes him look like a lightning-less Night Lord though (which the War Hounds color scheme alone tends to already do, when it's not making people think of dark Ultramarines), which is why I used the Crusade-pattern shoulder pads from his buddy on my Maximus-pattern apothecary. Then again, mkII pauldrons look good on mkIV space marines.

Looking forward to the Khârn-based praetor. Too bad your War Hounds are post-Angron, I'd have loved to see Lhorke before his internment into a contemptor.

So ive realised my WIP thread is to cluttered and the warhounds deserve their own page lol. After some serious thinking and reading about the friendship between tarvitz and lucius before he turned traitor i realised id like to do something similar. So i'm back to square one with the fluff and looking for help and input into a good backstory.

Basically my thought process was goes something along the lines of -

Red butchers Praetor is the company master, He has the butchers nails implanted as his primarch has advised, he realises too late the effect they have and takes his company to an assignment far away in a bid to stop the nails from becoming common practice in his company. He has a close batle brother as a friend who he confides to about his struggles in keeping in control with the butchers nails whom ive modelled using kharns body, He is worried about his control over the nails so he leads the few brothers that have the nails implanted in suits of red butchers terminator armour entrusting his close friend whom ill run as a consul to oversea the army. When he hears of angron turning traitor he stays loyal as the emperors faithful warhounds.

So any feedback would be super welcome and any ideas for stories as long as it fits the loyalist warhounds idea would be cool to hear biggrin.png

So things have been ridiculously busy over the last couple of months and as a result i'm not going to be able to complete my B&C challenge. However on the upside My good friend Wes from Rocky has painted up these two guys whom i converted to be the centre pieces for my army. With the completion of these 2 plus the final touch's on my first 20 man tactical squad almost complete things are finally starting to move forward biggrin.png

I've never liked the Red Butchers models, whom I find one whip away from a dark eldar's bdsm set with all those spikes and chains, but he's well painted. So is 'totes-not-Khârn.'

And nice to see a killed Death Guard traitor. tongue.png

I've never seen any red butchers in the flesh, er, resin so I must ask you this: are these lightning claws included in the kit or do they come from regular cataphractii?

Either way, red butchers will always look like they're dancing to me. tongue.png
