Prot
Tonight I have a campaign game... actually 2 lined up. And it will be my first time trying the Grey Knights, and I admit I feel burned out already as in the last 6 days, after work, and getting stuff out of the way, I have been spending every free minute putting stuff together. These past 6 days I've cleaned, and assembled 2 x Dreadknights, 5 Terminators, a Termie Libby and I've just assembled 10 grey knights in power armour. Thanks to someone's advice here I decided to be pro-active and although my list in this campaign only calls for 6 Interceptors, I've decided to put the whole box together. So the advice I speak of was for magnetizing back packs.... what a pain. I did 10 magnets in the back of the marines, and another 20 magnets in 2 sets of back packs. So I'm feeling pretty burned out just now, And I look at the boxes I still have to assemble to get past 1K: Another 20 PA guys, another 5 Termies, another Libby, Draigo.... I think that's it for now... and I own a Landraider, and Stormraven I can put together for this army. In doing this, in my offtime, I've been reading the fluff which I think is great for the army. It fills a lot of blanks for me and enough of it is coherent with the current storyline in the Horus Heresy, I think it's really great. But in reading the rules, it's funny because although they're marines, of which I have plenty of, they are so very different. I keep trying to memorize all the differences... the inherent abilities, the difference in rules, and weapon stats. The psychic phase alone is so different... I'm hoping I don't mess up too much. Tonight should be interesting and although the army is just assembled, I'll try to get some pics and do a quick batrep... even if I get tabled or it goes horribly. ;) I just wanted to thank the forum people here who have helped me fill in the blanks for the army. jeffersonian000
Good luck, and best wishes to you. I've done the same thing, with my original all metal Grey Knights army back in 4th, doing a 3-day long "don't sleep til they're painted" marathon just before a tourney, I can empathize. Just remember to take a step back, admire the artistry of your work, and play your games for the pleasure of playing, and you'll do fine. Rurik the blessed
Great story... it is true... Grey knights despite of being space marines... they are sooooooo different. It happens to me, but backwards, I'd start this game with Grey Knights, and never play regular space marines, now i assemble a little Iron Hands armty, and it was so much different. Tell us more about your experience. Emicus
I'm pretty torn on magnets myself at the moment. They are a great cost saver as far as buying plastics are concerned, but they take so much time to get right for me, I'm honestly not sure if it's worth the bother. Special character weapon swaps, alright, ndk weapons, sure. But backpacks? I tried doing 5 purifiers/interceptors and lining them up straight was a pain and a half.. And then they kept falling off! jeffersonian000
I use alignment pins, lengths of steel wire (from a paper clip) set next to the magnet, that slides into a matching hole on the other surface. Being steal, not only does the piece not rotate or pop off unexpectedly, the pin acts like a latch to kind of lock the piece in place. Its the art of pinning models, taken to the next level. ChaoticEric
You should be glad you're not building a blobguard, tyranid horde of a green tide in the same amount of time, gk definitely has advantages in low model count :) But otherwise yes, our lists tend to be quite repetitive these days with multiples of the same list put together to fit different point games. Although not new and not as effective any more it could provide you with some variety to try a draigo-paladin-star for a change if you want. I still love the fluff of paladins and unless you facing plenty of s8/ap2 they can be quite durable with an apothecary in their midst but they do come at a rather stiff price in points. How did the game go? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304890-first-game-with-different-marine-feels-different/#findComment-3983595 Share on other sites
