Righteousrob
Dorn's Fury Space Marines Chapter "In times of difficulty, those who are brave enough to the stay the course will be victors in the end" Home World The homeworld of Dorn's Fury is Brycantia a feral world whose inhabitants are at edge of the age of black powder. Brycantia is found in the Segmentum Obscurus, sector Calixis, Subsector Adrantis, Bellicas System. The citizens know very little of life outside of harsh working conditions or civil wars. DF maintains a large fortress monastery on the world, which to the citizens is a massive castle on top of a large impassable mountain. DF uses its cloak technology to keep ships hidden as they enter and leave air space to keep the citizens from becoming aware. Recruiting is done through "priests" who are DF agents which select the best warriors from amongst the population, it is a great honor to be chosen to be taken to the mountain by a priests who know the only way to the fortress. These priests teach of an all mighty leader known as "the Emperor" who rules from the Heavens but is not a God. The many kingdoms of the land are allowed to fight each other as this breeds better warriors and recruits but no Kingdom gets to large before some accident befalls that Kingdoms leader,or its population is wiped by a plague if they are found to be lacking in faith or disobey the priests. Brycantia is a small planet and has only 1 million citizens(to large?). The whole worlds temperament is cold and snow is common. Brycatia has no horses but unusual amount of dogs which are kept as companions. Only 3 terran months of the year breed weather worthy of farming, during this time many wars are halted for the rulers need the men to farm for the colder and less productive months. While some months are blizzard like conditions, most months are a mix of snow, sunshine and slushy conditions. Winter wars lead to very hardened warriors, Dorns Fury space marines find themselves at home when on worlds which have some snow and muddy conditions. Combat Doctrine Much like their founding chapter, the marines of Dorns Fury revile in siege warfare. They pick this up during their time on the home world, besieging castles and strongholds and it is further reinforced in training. DF it is an honor to be chosen to wield a heavy weapon. For unknown reasons, DF marines find wielding a plasma to be pleasing(need suggestions why this could be) and for this reason there are a high number of plasma weapons throughout the chapter and in the field. The chapter prefers a hammer and anvil approach if not sieging. Drop pods are a common alpha strike to pinch the enemy towards the Devastator squads. Like all Imperial Fists, DF are highly trained with all bolter weapons and field high amounts of heavy bolters. An oddity amongst other chapters is DF do not deploy bikes, having no horses on Brycantia and preferring a bolter or devastator DF never took to bikes and do not use them. In fact, marines of DF are so insulted to not be behind some weapon or foot on the ground that all rhinos, talons, ect are manned and driven by the chapters mechanium. This has led to a distain of such Chapters as the White Scars who feel their hit and run tactics to be borish and cowardly. Organization/Organisation. Dorns Fury was founded in the 41st millennium by the Councils of Terra to help bolster the Cadian Gate. During their founding they were trained by the leadership of the Hammers of Dorn. During this time Dorns Fury and Hammers of Dorn developed a love/hate relationship with each other. The Hammers looking down on DF as their colors were close to that of their hated rivals, the Ultra Marines. While fighting together the marines of DF picked up the hatred of the Word Bearers warbands and were decimated many times by the Word Bearers bands as the scouts were not ready for such aggression. DF adhere to the codex and have moved on from training with the Hammers. Though the 5th, 2nd and parts of the first company remain to help bolster the Achilus Crusade and hunt down the Word Bearers. Beliefs DF marines believe the Emperor to be a legendary leader and founder of a great civilization but is no god. They know their primarch fought beside him before he was wounded. This knowledge has led to the DF trying to do mighty and heroic deeds. They are doing these deeds to prove to the other chapters they belong with the Fists who were with Dorn and to make up for the fact they failed the Emperor in protecting him(a trait they got from Dorn). Sometimes these deeds pay off as DF has held on against overwhelming odds,or has led to untimely failures such as when Sternguard of the 1st tried to drop pod behind enemy super heavies only to find their melta guns unable to do the job and they themselves, slain or driven from the battle. Gene-seed/Geneseed Decedents of Dorn through the Imperial Fists stock. Before the founding the gene seed was altered to try and counter the faults of the original stock. Unfortunatly not only did the Imperial Fist flaw remain but some marines vocal cords were altered. Very few marines have this flaw but it allows them to have booming and deep voices. DF believe this to be a blessing from Dorn, calling it Dorns Voice. Marines use this to inspire and strike fear into enemies as Rogal Dorn would. Battle-cry/Battlecry/Chapter Motto Cry "His Fury is here!" Motto "Dishonor is Death" Devastator motto "Hide behind your walls, I shall bury you in them!" 5ths motto "We failed him once, we will not again" Chapter Strength The chapter is currently below strength, being a new chapter and having been dealt loses by the Word Bearers legion. Only the 5th Company remains at full strength and the 10th has more recruits than a normal chapter as DF rebuilds. Outside of those who stayed in the Achilus crusade the others have returned to the fleet to build back strength. Other chapters have allowed marines to join DF in mentoring and leadership roles, though they must don the colors of DF. Allies/Enemies The Hammers of Dorn are held in high esteem for helping teach the chapter. The Mechanium serves as a close ally to DF for they appreciate allowing their members the right to service the chapters machines both outside of battle and during battle, as the drivers. For this the Mechanium procures the plasma technology the chapter craves and is working to obtain other more elite weaponry such as the Centurion suits. Word Bearers are a sworn enemy of DF and will be hunted if paths ever cross. The 5th having taken an oath to hunt and destroy all Word Bearers in the Achilus Crusade, particularly Captain Meyeria of the Bearers 1st. The Ork Warboss Dakaka Rotrug Da Rusty and his Waagh have entered the Sub Sector and are currently being monitored to know if the home world is in danger. Notable Ships in Fleet Righteousfury- Chapters only battle barge Ronin- 2nd company cruiser Dorn's Wrath- 5th Company Cruiser Notable chapter names Dravium Hoke- Former Captain of the 1st, killed in action by Word Bearers Captain James Harbau- Chapter Master Tyrono Wheatlius- Master of Recruits Mattius Hibiu- Captain of the 5th Lyso Trock- Librarian of the 5th Bo Shembeck- Chief Apothacarian, former apothecary of the 3rd who slew a Demon prince on Obsidia IV with his bolter and proceeded to save the gene seed of his slain brothers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304924-dorns-fury/ Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Okay so far. Your grammar needs correction in some places, with examples listed below: The many kingdoms of the land are allowed to fight each other[,] as this breeds better warriors and recruits[;] but no Kingdom gets [too] large before some accident befalls that Kingdom[']s leader,[ ]or its population is wiped [out] by a plague if they are found to be lacking in faith or disobey the priests. Much like their founding chapter, the marines of Dorn[']s Fury [revel] in siege warfare. This has led to a [disdain] of such Chapters as the White Scars[,] [as] their hit and run tactics [are considered] [boorish] and cowardly. I advise you to proofread it before posting. I understand it can be difficult to copy from your computer and then paste it to a post, due to a flaw with Microsoft Internet Explorer (see http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301589-unable-to-quote/); you may need to download Google Chrome or a similar program to fix this. As for Brycantia and its culture, I think it's okay to increase the human population's size. The dogs should be used to pull sleds, and maybe to pull plows. I also noted a contradiction in the following sentences: They pick this up during their time on the home world, besieging castles and strongholds and it is further reinforced in training. In fact, marines of DF are so insulted to not be behind some weapon or foot on the ground... If it's insulting to not meet your enemies on the ground, looking him in the eye as you fight... why isn't it insulting to man a castle wall? The castle wall also prevents you from meeting your enemies, unless the enemy manages to climb the wall or breach your defenses. I think a better explanation for why the Marines have Mechanicus Tech-Priests drive their vehicles, is due to the fact the Chapter is below strength. As for the preference towards plasma weapons, I'm sure a religious reason can be found- say Brycantia's people worship the sun, whose fury is embodied in the plasma weapon. I don't think the priests who serve Dorn's Fury should use plagues as a means of punishment. Not only are there ethical concerns, but plagues also strengthen Nurgle, and surely no loyalist is willing to aid one of the Emperor's most hated enemies? Brother-Sergeant Valorum
I have to agree with Bjorn: all of what he said makes sense. I also have a few suggestions: It seems unnecessary for the Hammers of Dorn to dislike them, especially considering that their only crime is having colors similar to those of the Ultramarines. Also, the language you use is a bit informal for an IA, and kind of takes away from the read. It also might do your IA some good for you to elaborate a bit on their beliefs, early history, and other such important bits. You may want to check out the guide to DIYing on the B&C, or Octavulg's guide to an IA, for inspiration. That's not to say your IA isn't good: it is, but it can certainly be improved upon, as well. Righteousrob
I like that part of worshipping the sun. You are right about insulted part. I'll change to dislike of the feeling of bikes so rarely used, and under strengthen so let mechanium. I can take out dislike for color. Sorry for my informal writing style. I can expand as more feedback is given. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304924-dorns-fury/#findComment-3983924 Share on other sites
Brother-Sergeant Valorum
No need to apologize, brother. It's all good. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304924-dorns-fury/#findComment-3983927 Share on other sites
Arendious
You might consider a parallel relationship between sieges on your homeworld and the relationship your marines have with their vehicle drivers. Perhaps it's common practice to make slaves, dishonored warriors, or women operate the siege equipment while "real" warriors assault breaches and perform escalades. That might go a ways toward explaining a love of sieges with a simultaneous focus on personal combat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304924-dorns-fury/#findComment-3984886 Share on other sites
Righteousrob
My concern with that is that devestators don't really face the enemy. I need more why they don't like bikes in particular(it's more I dont own any or want to play them lol). Conn Eremon
Well, your army is only going to be a tiny, tiny fraction of the overall Chapter, unless you are actually buying an entire Chapter's worth of models and regularly fielding them all. So what is or is not in your army should not be so fully reflective of the whole Chapter. Just because a taskforce comprising of elements from the Ultramarines 4th Company excludes bikes doesn't mean the Ultramarines Chapter has no bikes at all. Arendious
Reasons not to use bikes: 10) Doomrider was once summoned in the distant past of Brycantia, leading to a massive cultural taboo. 9) All the chapter's bikes were lost in a orbital transshipment accident, and never replaced. 8) Secretly, one of the chapter's implants has developed a mutation that causes vision issues when travelling above running speed - hence why the chapter's vehicles are all driven/flown by non-astartes. 7) As a young child, an early chapter master was struck by a drunk rogue trader on a bike when the planet was first explored. 6) Four wheels good, two wheels bad! 5) Due to an ongoing scriptural misunderstanding, the local forgeworld collects and destroys any motorcycle found in their vicinity. 4) All the chapter's bike instructors are locked in stasis and chapter policy forbids training new bikers until the old ones are awakened. 3) The chapter was operating alongside the Dark Angels Ravenwing (or a successor, perhaps) when the Unforgiven went haring off after a Fallen and left the chapter's forces blind to a threat that wiped out an entire company. 2) The copy of the Codex Astartes the chapter holds was mis-copied and thus contains no information on the use of bikes. 1) Imperial FISTS! If the Primarch wanted us to ride bikes, we'd have been Imperial Feet. Bjorn Firewalker
I think Doomrider's appearance on Brycantia is the best explanation. Another could be favoring the Land Speeder's greater utility over that of the bike. (See the US Army favoring the jeep over the Harley Davidson in WW2.) Jagdpanther
The homeworld of Dorn's Fury is Brycantia Just thought you should know that Brycantia is the homeworld of the Iron Knights, another Imperial First successor chapter that has a love of siege warfare, bit of a canon conflict. Brycantia is a small planet and has only 1 million citizens Generally speaking that is quite a small number to recruit from, each intake could cause a shift the in the genetics of your world with such a small population and only the weaker ones end up breeding. It's also quite a small population to have civilization develop from, as an example; The world population in 35,000 BCE is estimated to have been around 3 million people who subsisted as hunter-gatherers. The population had increased to around 15 million by the time agriculture was invented around 12,000 years ago Even if your world only has a small landmass, 50-100 million people wouldn't be out of the question, that was estimated to be India's population in 300BCE. The Hammers looking down on DF as their colors were close to that of their hated rivals, the Ultra Marines. Seems a fairly trivial reason for rivalry when its entirely possible the HoD would have had a hand in shaping the colours and name of the Chapter they gave life to. Just a few things to ponder over Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304924-dorns-fury/#findComment-3985600 Share on other sites
